I also remarked to myself this morning how the weather today is so much the same as 9/11/01. I remember it all so vividly. Since I too live in the Northeast, I know several people who lost loved ones. A friend from high school died and also the son of a college friend. No one's life has been the same since then. We were all affected tremendously.

Watching the twin towers go was horrendous, but when word of Flight 93 in Shanksville PA and also the Pentagon made it seem as if the entire world had gone mad.

I hope we continue to remember that day and the people. Sometimes I think of Pearl Harbor Day and how there are many , many people who have no idea what that commemorates. It happened before I was ever born but I remember my Mom talking about it in the same way we talk about 911.

Yes, thank you. We were visiting Pearl Harbor just days before and DH & I were profoundly affected standing on those hallowed grounds. That site holds a lot of energy.

I do not know anyone lost on 9/11, being a west coast resident my entire life, but I do recall that exact feeling of the world going mad. This just does not happen on American soil! But then I did think of the people who live in war torn nations and thought of how very proud I am to be an American. How really special it is to live here and to have been a safe country for as long as modern history recalls. And I realized on that day that Americans really CAN rally together if we're tested.

9/11 was THE most important day of my life. I'll never forget.

I feel fortunate I didn't lose anyone, but how can we ever forget those who have. Our thoughts are with the families whose lives will be forever changed.

Polly, thank you for the reminder of what should never be forgotten.

I did not know anyone but my girlfriend is a Physchiatrist who works at the hospital closest to the towers. She said the hospital went on disaster mode with all hands on deck. She described their horror when they all realized there would be so few needing treatment.

My thoughts are with the families today.

I know for many of you who do not live in the area it is a little far removed since it didn't happen in your backyard

I live in the southeast, nowhere near New York, but it doesn't seem far removed at all. I think we all feel like New Yorkers on this day.

I am so sorry for your losses, Polly. All over the country, we have not forgotten. We remember and mourn with you.

I remember it as though it was yesterday. May we never forget......

I lived in the tri-state area for many years and the observation deck at the WTC was my favorite spot to take visitors/tourists. My mother had taken her foreign cousin there about a month before 9/11. Luckily none of our immediate friends died that day, even though some of them worked in that area. I was 8 months pregnant at the time and it was a harsh reminder of how quickly our lives/world can change.

We live a few miles from the Pentagon where a student lost her dad and a family I grew up with in PA lost the oldest child in their family. It is always a very difficult anniversary. As dedtired said, today was exactly like that day-clear blue sky with a wonderful crisp feel to the air.

I think about all those families and I hope they know we grieve with them.

I remember that day so well, everything, how I felt and reacted as different events unfolded on tv, Dad's reactions and thoughts, telephoning dh, my deep anxiety for my brother who was traveling, where I was standing, all of it.
I don't think anyone, no matter how much or little the personal effects and involvement of the day, will ever forget.

I cannot imagine that proximity could have made that day any worse. We are all Americans. Far removed? Never!

Sherrmann, you are absolutely right. Have to say, though, that driving by and seeing that hole in the building afterward was extremely disquieting as was driving down many roads here and seeing portable missle launchers on the side of the road. We listened to the AF jets flying cover for weeks. A friend asked me if all that made me feel safer. In reality, it just served as a constant reminder of exactly the opposite. We still can't drive into DC without being reminded-that section of the building does not quite match the rest of the stone.
