Right now the worst for me is, I believe, Staples ... with the guy screaming NOW THAT'S A LOW PRICE over every single thing he looks at.

BurgerKing commercials are terrible for me. If it's not the King, it's the guy with tiny hands ... I think both are creepy.

There's a new one, I don't know who it is, but has a clown at a kid's birthday party who steps on something sharp and screams bloody murder, scaring off all the kids. I need to watch it and see whose commercial it is, because I sure don't want to support their business!

I stopped buying one of my favorite candy bars when Bart Simpson was advertising them. Don't like that show, and it's just stupid to have a cartoon character advertise something.

I know there are other products that I've not bought in the past BECAUSE I didn't like the way they advertised, but none come to the top of my head at the moment.

I detest the lawyer ads, but one I really took seriously was the one who looked me in the eye and said, "If you or a loved one has been injured or died, call............". As soon as I die, I will indeed call him.

Several commercials I dislike, but so far not enough to boycott them. The only one I can think of qucikly is the Subway commercial with Michael Phellps swimming thru concrete and fields etc it's stupid.

Empire carpet. Makes my blood boil and seems to play far more freuqently than most other commercials. Can't stand the jingle.

Just about all of them. Since I live in Canada, we often get different commercials even though the shows we are watching are broadcast from the states by way of a Cdn. network. We have some doozies - actually really disgusting. And, yes, I refuse to by products (unless they are the only ones I can use) if I hate the product. Of course there are some commercials that I like, but I don't care for the products being pushed (i.e. some of the cute pet commercials). Heck, my favourite commercial was for Alka Seltzer - the original, Pop, Pop, Fizz, Fizz - but I can't take Alka Seltzer. I hate all of the drug commercials, particularly, at least in Canada because they can't mention what the drug is for. Drives my doctor nuts because people see the commercial and decide they must have the drug. Frankly, unless the drug is the only thing that will keep you alive, the side effects sound far worse. Many of the food commercials are particularly disgusting.

The only one I really "boycott" is Carl's Junior. Their commercials turn my stomach and they often put up the drippy posters in their restaurants also.

Any product being sold by a ball jockey. It is no secret how I feel about pro sports. one that comes to mind is Magic Johnson selling Rent-A-Center. Isn't he the one wh0, while he was married bedded so many sluts, he brought the HIV virus home to his wife and family? Another one is for ???wireless. The Q marks are because they have some kid who doesn't speak well yet, yell the business name. Dottie

Amen to Sonic! According to their commercials, only the mentally sub-par eat there. Also the Progressive Insurance commercials with that very strange looking lady. If I walked in somewhere and saw her, I'd leave fast! And any used-car lot commercial. Why do used cars attract loud, badly dressed men?

Couldn't think of one right off the top of my head (but there are quite of few); until yes the Progressive Insurance ads get MUTED. I'm tired of those. I love the one with the little dog fretting over his bone's security!

There's a new one for denture adhesive that DH clicks off the instant it appears. It's LOUD. The actors look senile. The whole topic is nauseating.

The stop-smoking drug ad (Chantix?) must be the *longest* TV ad in the world. That gets clicked off immediately too.

Do THAT MANY people really give their cars to charities? Why? It's not a financially wise move, and it has to be a lot more work for the charities than if you just gave them some of the proceeds of selling the car.

I'd prefer to live in a country that prohibits ads for prescription drugs. Only America and New Zealand permit this. (I wonder if the ED commercial that cautions about its effects lasting more than X hours is a subliminal message. If you have 'nothing' perhaps 'something' lasting for hours testifies to the drug's effectiveness?)

Dotmom, I believe we're thinking of the same commercial but that wouldn't surprise me! Young girl that screams the company name and the latest one she was by a Christmas tree and wouldn't even look at the camera. Eyes snapping to the sides. All I could think of the first time I saw it was the song "You Have Marty Feldman Eyes"! Some wireless place that sells and fixes phones. I usually turn the channel when I hear that voice. Why do people think that throwing a kid in a commercial automatically makes it "cute"? There's some water treatment place now that the guy is holding some kid. Nothing to do with the commercial but stick the kid in there.

I don't think commercials really influeance what I buy too much, BUT years and years ago Snapple was a sponser for obnoxious Howard Stern on his late night show and I will never buy any Snapple - ever!!

I hate that cave man commercial too. The one I am crazy about at the moment is the little animated cartoon type flamenco dancer that dances through a tostitas commercial...It's so cute. I am so tired of the Progressive commercial too...and that girl that does it drives me insane.

Another Carl's Jr.'s hater here - even if the commercials are muted, and one of theirs comes on, we'll change the channel. So disgusting to have all that food crammed in and dripping out of your mouth!

If Sonic is the one that has the two weird people sitting in the car with their plastic-looking food, then they're a big turn-off, too.

Olive Garden's food always looks gross, too (looks regurgitated for lack of a better description;-). Having eaten some of it many years ago, I tend to think it tastes as bad as it looks, but that could just be me...

P.S. One of our favorite food commercials was Jack in the Box's "Mini Buffalo Ranch Chicken Sandwich" one - not because we'd eat it, but because it was catchy and fun.

I boycotted Sonic for a long time because of their commercials. The people who talked in their cars had to be the most stupid people I have ever seen.

I just wanted to add any prescription medication ad. Those commercials go on and on and on. First they tell you how wonderful you will feel if you take the drug, then they tell you all of the side-effects. The side-effects often sound worse than the initial problem, especially when they include death:-\

I think the silliest prescription medication has to be the one Brooke Shields advertises to make your eye lashes grow. Long lashes are that important? Seriously.

The pitiful mistreated dog and cat commercial is too heartwrenching, I hug the peke and turn the channel til it's over.

The mistreated animals commercial tugs at me too much to watch but I certainly won't boycott animal support! It's a powerful commercial and reminds me how many people shouldn't have pets. I'm an avid supporter of many animal shelters and the like. No way would I boycott them. They need support.

And people who think that if you don't like a pet, well, just let it go in the woods, or drop it at the humane society or something, should be horsewhipped in public. Weeknights at 10 PM eastern should be available on NBC now to air it.

I do not buy anything connected to a commercial, I mute all of them. One must remember that commercials are one sided for the product being advertised, they certainly aren't going to tell the downside of their product lest it be the side effects of the medicines.

If I purchase something that has been commercialized and I like it I'll buy it again, and if I don't like it you can write that one off to history, None of their millions in advertising will sway me.

Being an outdoors sort of man there are few commercial that are programed at me anyway.

I will say this, I can still remember the female hand slowly pouring out the contents of a can of Campbell's pork and beans all the while the person speaking is telling of the healthy benefit of the beans for the family. In black and white I might add.

Speaking of the pitiful animal commercial, I just meant I "boycott" listening to the commercial, not that I am against helping abused animals. I've taken in strays, got pets from the shelter, donated. I guess I should be more clear if it comes across that I am uncaring.

I am also turned off by the Carl's Jr. commercials. I don't want to eat something sloppy that will drip all over my shoes.

We used to have a RV salesman on our local station that gathered up all fifteen grandkids and did his commercial with them running all over the place.

I'm so sad to hear that so many of you have been driven near the edge of insanity by so many of these inane commercial messages.

We have a rather wry take on the advertising system by one of the major ones on CBC Radio One, called "The Age of Persuasion" that I find rather interesting: it's been on weekly for several years. I suspect that if the half dozen or so of you who disparaged several of the major offenders wrote the company, telling them of your displeasure ... that is shared by others, according to their claim on a high quality internet discussion group ...

... they might pay some attention.

Squawking on a thread like this, for fun, is one thing ... doing something constructive about it seems to me to be of greater value.

This thread makes me rather less concerned that, out here where the three or so stations on TV are snowy, means that I watch little TV ... and am too cheap to spring for satellite.

I lived for several years without cable, in the city, after a house-sharer left ....... to live with a pleasant widow that he'd met at a singles' club. Later asked whether he could return: she liked the dog better tham him. Found a less expensive place elsewhere.

Joyful, I'll say no, I haven't contacted the advertiser and for a reason. I understand the retail business. Depriving them of income will do FAR more than contacting them to complain. But as you see by reading this thread, very few are actually willing to take a stand to vote with their cash. Many are troubled only by items they don't buy anyway. And yes that does include me. I think the feminine freshness commercials are regurgitatingly obnoxious but I wouldn't buy the items anyway and obviously it works with women, their intended customer base anyway. The bottom line is the dollar and when they sell it's working. Apparently there's relatively few commercials that people strongly dislike.

Oh, and yes, I fully realize that my few dollars alone will have little impact, but when enough say no, companies can close.

Contacting a place and complaining about a commercial can actually have the opposite effect more often than not. When people would call the TV station to complain about a show, and give explicit details about things they didn't like throughout, the station knew that it did what it was supposed to do. It captured a viewer. I hasten to add that most of the time they will log the comments but also large companies will gauge this against results. Sometimes it's a victory.

Occasionally a commercial is intended to primarily give name recognition. Down the road, you might forget the commercial but remember the name and subconsciously you're drawn to a name you know.

But this thread has been interesting. I thought that with the strong opinions so many here hold, that there would be a lot of people who would refuse to buy their product because of a commercial, an endorsement by someone they didn't like or otherwise. I'm quite surprised. A number of people are quite offended by a lot of things but surprisingly passive on commercials. Perhaps we've been so bombarded we're numb to it. I don't know. But curious nonetheless!

I hit the mute button when commercials come on because they get on my nerves. But the Hillshire Farms, GO MEAT commercial makes me sick. The guys standing at the barbeque screaming that dumb song. Right, like that happens in my neighborhood.

I did not mean to imply that I boycott needy animals. I just can't stand to feel so sad with that commercial. My shelter kitty does not like it either. We do contribute to our local animal shelter.

I have refused to buy Bounce fabric softener for so long that I can't remember what made me annoyed in the first place!

I've never actually boycotted any product. However, there was the King on a Burger King commercial which gave me nightmares for months, he was dancing in a desert, I believe. I don't know why I had that reaction. It creeped me out - I don't have the same reaction to the King when I see other commericals.

I have never hired an attorney but if I ever need one, it won't be one who does the advertising on the television. Maybe that could be considered a boycott - those have to be the most ambulancing chasing, cheesy attorneys I've ever seen. I suspect the do mass representation and get the money by heavy turnover of cases, which would imply to me that they almost insist on settling for a cheap sum instead of doing more time consuming work. Or, they handle lawsuits that are more of the "slip and fall" type of thing that gets settled quickly.

This is going to sound unfeeling and I don't mean it that way.

I adore animals, have always had a rescue dog and donate yearly to my own rescue center.

But there is a commercial which began running (around the holidays I believe) that show the most abused and physically ill of all dogs and cats I've ever seen. One of them is so starved that it more than likely was put asleep.

I consider this to be an unnecessary, cloying, manipulative, commercial move for money. It truely offends me. I can't believe it's effective. It turns me off of the organization. I won't be manipulated that way - I donate to help animals that are in need, I won't donate due to obvious crass manipulation.

I don't like Burger King anyway (they don't sell fresh brewed iced tea in our area). But their commercials.. well, I don't think I'm the right demographics for it anyway. Creepy.

The rats that used to sing like mariachi (sp?) for Quiznos Subs... never gonna get me to buy your food with a rat! I read somewhere that the same advertising company that did that came up with the Burger King creepy king ads. Sounded reasonable to me! LOL. The Creepy Marketing People.

I'm not familiar with any of the commercials spoken about because I watch everything on tape and zip through the commercials. Occ. DH or a friend will talk about a really cute commercial and I will have to go out of my way to try to catch it. I could watch the Travelers one with the dog worrying about his bone all day!

Yes, there is a company for which the commercials are, to me, so offensive that I no longer buy any of their products. That company is Carl Karcher Enterprises. My first husband had family that lived across the street from the Karchers, and we were over there quite often. The Karchers had great parties in their backyard! And it wasn't until after Carl's death that those digusting commercials began airing. I know he's rolling over in his grave.

Mucinex - cartoon phlegm is almost as bad as the real thing, which I don't want to see either...
