Any Soapstone owners with tile floors - pictures please!!

99% sure we're doing soapstone (Clasico vs Julia) in 1910 foursquare kitchen remodel with cherry shaker cabs and slate look porcelain tile on the floor in blues and browns (American Olean Amber Valley River Moss). But despite taking tile samples to the slab yard, I'm still not convinced this won't look too busy and would LOVE to see some pictures if anyone out there has done tile with soapstone. Don't really want to have to re-think the flooring decision, but wondering if I should. Thanks!

I wish I had one with slate tile floors but I have nothing.

I have soapstone with light to medium grey slate/bluestone look tile. Unfortunately, I am traveling this week and cant take any pics. You might be able to see a glimpse of the floors if you search my name. I love them. Very glad I didnt go with wood. The floors lend to the earthyness of the soapstone and it goes well. The name of the tile is Edigres Tibet Grey. My soapstone is not very busy, fwiw.

Leela4 - Hi. Sorry this response took so long. We were in rural Maine w/o access to the Net. The sink is concrete, with fiberglass fibers embedded for strength and stability without it being so heavy. It was made by a local architect. But there are lots of people who make them. Let me know if you have other questions. We're really happy with the look and functionality.

Get a sample and test it yourself. No birch floors here, but I've sold birch paint grade cabinets and even some stained ones. Like maple, it's difficult to stain evenly, but it's much softer than maple. Unless a customer is looking for a more "rustic" lived in look that will quickly show patina, I try to steer them to maple. Birch usually only wins the wood selection competition on a cost basis, not a looks or wearability basis. Rustic birch with the prominent knots and mineral streaks is the only birch that's usually chosen for "fall in lust looks", and then it's usually because of a cost savings from rustic hickory.

I had the same rust problem but I believe I found the source and a fix. The tub has two small holes at the top that were used to fill some kind of balancing fluid. They installed plugs. If you look at them close enough you will see they are not level with the top of the tub. When the washer is filling the tub turns slowing clockwise and the water coming in hits the top of the tub and fans out. As the tub spins these two little dips come around, hit the water and cause a few drops of water to splash upward. Over time this creates the rust. The other part of the problem is the underside of the lid is not painted. Fix #1. Remove the lid. Sand the rusted areas as best you can. Wipe clean. Use a rust preventing paint like Rust-Oleum. Apply at least two coats of paint to the underside allowing thirty minutes dry time between each coat. Fix #2. Get some silicone for bathroom areas that will not shrink, expand, or mildew. Fill both of the little holes in the top of the tub. Use a credit card to pack it in the holes and smooth it out on top. Allow 24hrs for it to cure. Fix #3. Leave the lid open when not using the washer. This allows the moisture to evaporate. I have done these three things to my machine and it is still in the testing phase. Not a sure fix but it is working so far.

I'll admit to not loving my soapstone as much as I expected. My variety does not hold the oil very well so to keep the dark preferred color (IMO) I have to oil it constantly. So then I stop oiling and just let it dry out and then I'm dealing with water rings and dark spots. (I think water rings are a problem with the oil too.) I also wish my soapstone had at least one area with a wider white vein - mine are fairly minimal. I wanted minimal but with just a touch of pizzaz and the original piece I chose had one great white vein slashing through. That piece got returned for a bookmatched piece. : ( But my fabricator did such a phenomenal job with the stone that I can't fault him for that. If I had to do it again?? I still think I'd lean towards soapstone. A lot of the granites just didn't do it for me. I looked at paperstone and it just seemed too flat... The stone does look perfect in my kitchen so I definitely don't regret it - it's just more work than I thought. I've had it in for about 2.5 months and am very pleased with it's scratch resistance. I chipped it for the first time when I dropped a large ceramic vase near the sink. It slightly chipped the edge - not that anyone would notice. The vase and a dish in the sink didn't fare so well!

I have a very busy/veiny soapstone with blue/green tile floors and it does not look too busy--but that may be relative as I also have 3 different cabinet colors in my kitchen!

WOW... honeychurch's pic is exactly what you were asking for! Mine, not quite as much but still shows a tile floor with a very very busy soapstone counter. We don't feel it's too busy at all

It's been a while but if memory serves it is Santa Rita Venata from Bucks County SS, quite soft and we have many dings but also extremely beautiful and we would not trade it! Good luck!
