What Plants, Trees, Etc. Catches Your Eye In Your Neighborhood?
Comments (17)Any sub-tropical exotic catches my eye, like the Gunnera's, Windmill palms(Trachycarpus fortunei), giant ricepaper plant (Tetrapanax papyrifera 'Steroidal Giant'), the many different species of bamboo, hardy eucalyptus, & the hardy banana (Musa basjoo). Also the other hardy and semi-hardy palms such as the Sabal's, (Jubaea chilensis) Chilean Wine Palm, (Butia capitata)Jelly Palm, (Butia eriospatha) Woolly Jelly Palm, plus a few others that I see around the area. I also find the bright flowers of the hardy Grevillea and Callistemon very eye catching. Of course Chilean Firebush (Embothrium coccineum) during the spring also catches my eye along with the bright blue flowers of the Empress Tree (Paulownia tomentosa) I also like the bright yellow flowers of the Scotsbroom, specially during our dark, rainy, depressing spring days. Those bright yellow flowers are so cheery. Scottsbroom also provides cover and food for one of my favorite birds, the valley quail. If it wasn't for the scottsbroom around Olympia there wouldn't be valley quail. I also like the bright cheery flowers of the butterfly bush (Buddleia davidii). There isn't the range of color, fragance, and time of blooming of any other plant for the northwest. They are very attractive....See MoreMay I please see your closet? (clothing)
Comments (39)Sheesharee, my DH and I are just getting ready to finish the built-in storage in our two closets, which are about the same dimensions as yours. We are doing L-shaped storage, that is, along two walls, so there's enough room to comfortably stand/dress in there. We're doing built-in stacks of shoe/sweater shelves, with double hanging bars on one wall and singles on the other. The empty wall will have hooks for robes, belts, etc. Each closet will also have a rolling laundry hamper we can easily roll down the hall to the washer/dryer area. I carefully planned it all out depending on the measurements of what we each need to store. It will probably end up costing us about $250 in materials by the time we're done. I'll try to post some photos once the main component are installed, and then later (hopefully by next weekend!) when it's all painted and has clothes in it :) We have been living out of piles and remote closets and basement boxes for over a year now since we had to gut this part of the house due to a mold problem and bathroom renovation. It's been so frustrating not knowing where stuff is. I am sooooooooooo looking forward to having nice, organized closets!...See MoreWhere do you hang your cloth hand towels?
Comments (36)Thanks, Charliekin. My kitchen photos don't do justice to the backsplash. In real life, everyone just stops short and gapes! They're glass tiles from AlysEdwards, custom made for me in Italy. They're like stained glass, a milky white with grays and browns, no two pieces alike. I couldn't have asked for anything more beautiful to go with my Carrara counters. I think you can appreciate them better in these next pix. I over-ordered and actually have an entire unused box of them that I keep meaning to list on CraigsList or someplace. There's just no where else in the house to use them....See MoreWhere and how do you hang your cloth dishtowels?
