advice on 30" gas cooktop - bosch or wolf?

I'm torn between the two below gas cooktops. The 30" five-burner bosch gas cooktop (top-rated on consumer reports) or the 30" four-burner Wolf gas cooktop. Must be a 30" and cooktop (vs. commercial-style range). I took my most-used pots and pans to the store and laid them out in various configurations; both cooktops fit perfectly.

Bosch:

Any thoughts? Wolf is nearly $1k more expensive. I don't want to get it just for the sake of "Wolf is a higher-end brand". Wolf has simmer setting on all burners, but Bosch has two simmers, too. Bosch's center burner has higher BTUs, better for boiling water faster for pasta, etc. They seem equally easy to clean. Both auto-reignite, illuminated knobs. Cutout size similar.

I just cant decide!

You might consider the USA made Dacor cooktops which also offers an integrated "downdraft" venting system. I have installed the 30" gas cooktop and electric oven (as single dual-fuel unit - see DR30DI) together with the 15" downdraft vent, and I'm really pleased with it.

Did you go with the Bosch, Wolf, Dacor or another cooktop? Are you happy with your choice? Am weighing which one to choose now as well...

Hi Kelly -- I can't speak to the bosch specifically, but recently I've been shopping for a gas range, and I took my two largest pots/pans to the store with me. Then I tested them out on each range top to see how they fit, and if I could fit smaller pots on there when the bigger pots were on the burners. It was a huge help -- some stoves felt like they had plenty of room, while others felt much too cramped... Emily

As far as gas cooktops I think neither brand is superior. The Bosch claims a 400 btu (~125 degrees) simmer which is low enough for even the most delicate French sauces in small amounts. The GE claims 140 degree simmer. You probably want to make the most delicate French sauces in 4-6 person portions or use a heat diffuser. The GE power burner has an extra 4k btu of power. There is not way for the Bosch to make up that extra power.

You may want to post in the appliance forum. I would first answer several questions.

Whats your budget? Do you want duel fuel? Sealed burners? What kind of cooking do you typically do?

@oneverdun - it doesn't make much sense that you spent $2,500 (minimum) on a Wolf cooktop, and are that mad at $160? Wolf offers a 2-year warranty. When did you buy your cooktop?
