How about hanging Kerosene lanterns around (I'd use those flameless votives in them, though, rather than having lit kerosene in the house, if this is inside)

Do you by any chance know anyone who has a set of the cast-iron handled flatware they used to sell at Cracker Barrel? I like using it for very casual events--would look great for something like you describe.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head, but I'm sure others will have great suggestions, too.

Those Mason jars can be used as beverage glasses... that's how they drink the moonshine!

There's a great restaurant by my house and the placemats are made out of denim with a gingham pocket sewn on to hold the silverware. It is really cute.

Maybe you could find some enamel ware. Usually blue or red speckled. Your centerpieces in the jars could be just simple daisies...3 or 4 just placed in the water. Do you have a party rental store near you? You can rent the linens and possibly the enamel ware (we carry it, but I don't think you are close enough) if you don't care to buy them. Look for some corn cob pipes...you can fasten them around the napkins for napkin rings with a piece of straw (rafia). How many people are expected?

Watch CMT. They have Redneck weddings and other redneck events. In fact, the new season of "My Big Redneck Wedding" starts this weekend. There are lots of decorating tips to be had such as mounted animal heads everywhere and lots of beer cans. One girl also used lots of quilts to cover the walls.

Sure sounds like a fun party! Host/hostess with barefeet, newspaper placemats, foil pie pans for plates & jelly jars with cheap looking fake flowers as centerpiece. Tables made of boards on top of boxes, barrels, etc. & tin washtub or buckets w/ice for cold drinks

Rope clotheslines & with tattered clothing (longjohns if you have them)and mismatched socks hung together. Old tires, hubcaps, car parts, tin cans, broken chairs, doors/windows, cooking pots, etc. scattered about.

Refrigerator box with door cut into it for as an 'Outhouse.' (A brown magic marker can be used to make it look like lumber...don't forget to cut out a half moon in the door.

Oh, leave one strap of overalls hanging loose & remove boot/shoe strings.

If this is for raising money, maybe set up some old lawnchairs in front of the clothesline along with an old tire and some scattered tin cans and take people's photos for a fee?

Be sure to put dried Corn Cobs on the Outhouse Door.

I did many 'Country Hodowns' at my club. My waitresses wore the bib shorts & red & white checked shirts, a bandana print neckscarf & straw hats. I set bales of hay/straw around the perimeter of the dancefloor. Definitely use the canning jars for drinks (don't forget the straws!)
If you do the outhouse? You can paint it brown & there's a paint tool called a 'brayer' which when pulled thru wet paint-will give a 'woodgrain' effect. You could even place the corncobs & an old Sears catalogue by the door!
Heads up on the plastic checkered tablecloths. Used them 1 year & when they get wet from drinks? The red rubs off on clothing. What a MESS!! I switched to denim yard goods after that. No sew-can get it in washed denim, red & regular dark blue denim. Then use the hankies for napkins. I rolled my silverware in the napkins & tied with a twine slip knot. If you go to a Dollar store-you may also find the 1 cup metal measuring cups-which work well for coffee!
If you can get your hands on an old toilet? Makes a great flower urn...filled w/sunflowers!
I also made a front porch facade painted in the wood effect, cardboard roof overhang, etc. Placed 2 old rocking chairs under it-a shotgun by the door & a spitoon by the chairs. Great scene for pics as well. I suggest you look at a party goods store-they have rolls of scenery of many styles-I just used pushpins to adhere to the walls..comes in 4' wide rolls.
For favors..how about neckerchieves or a tin shrriff's badge? Maybe you could even devise something that looks like a still. Then get dry ice to come up out of the stovepipe thingy.
On your walls, some ideas:
Posters of the Beverly Hillbillies, posters you print different "You might Be A Redneck If..."
and lastly-a BIG banner that says:
"GIT 'ER DONE!!"

For centerpieces: Cover a mayo jar with a western handkerchief...pull them up to the top and then tie the sides...tie a little bit of twine to secure it and make it more decorative...take wire and make a bail for it...inside put sand and a tea light candle...the sand will keep the candle secure and make it safe from fire. These hankies can be purchased at a hobby store or Wal-Mart for about a dollar each...sometimes less...

You gals are wonderful!!! What great ideas!!! Please...keep them coming as I would like this to be a really big hit. It seems our Ladies Auxiliary is always needing money and it seems as we never have enough. Yes...this is a fund raiser and YES....everyone is invited. Just hop on a plane or start up your car and drive on over to Florida's East coast on the 23rd.

One of the things I would do is avoid using inflammatory disparaging terms for the party like redneck or hillbilly. Call it a hoedown or or barn dance something innocuous.

The reason we're using "Hillbilly Hoedown" is because the name of the band is the Shriners Hillbilly Band. I appreciate your suggestion but don't think any of our members will take offense. I'm from Tennessee and consider myself a hillbilly redneck and am never offended by the words.
