Help Me Get Rid of the Blasted Spiders!
Comments (36)In a repot, I will flip the plant upside down, bareroot and wash off everything. No less than 2 days later, there's a web. Or today, I put my tray of seeds outside....a cookie tray. Bringing them in, I found 8 web strings...no spider. I can appreciate balance....and I'm not against spiders taking up this or that corner. I leave them alone. I have one, aptly named Charlotte (3 pts for originality, I know) that resides at the top corner of my storage cabinet out there, I'm fine with that....but these spiders shooting webs from ceiling to plant, roof to roof, pot to pot, beam to beam....wow. I bought a bbq lighter just to burn off the webs. A quick run over with the lighter doesn't do anything to the plants and eradicates the web in a millisecond. I do look ridiculous doing this 5-6x a day but hell if I care. I primarily have white spiders, brown garden spider looking things, and some green ones. At this point, I don't care what kind they are...I just want them off my patio. I feel ya, original poster. :)...See MoreLighting
Comments (17)Thanks for the lighting descriptions. I might go to 100W glass shades to be safe, but still am not finding size/style/price combos that work for me. Does anyone have just 60W light fabric shaded sconces used for grooming? (When there's an overhead light). The vanity is between two full depth towers and it seems to have a good bit of light reduction than the center of the room. I'll have to prop a mirror to check how the light falls there without sconces. The fabric shades would be 60W, as high as they go. It's a light bathroom with off white walls. This is an older small standard sized bath. This post was edited by snookums2 on Sun, Mar 31, 13 at 11:28...See MoreSpiders galore
Comments (11)"I leave the porch light on all night every night, because we live in a grotty neighbourhood and darkness does not improve its friendliness; light does. Also, the paper comes at some ungodly hour and I don't like to ask the paperboy (er... paperman? paperlady?) to come into my heavily planted yard in the dark... creepy. So I may be attracting spiders though. Hmm. Maybe I need to put the lights away from the house." No, you need to put a motion sensor on your lights, so they only come on when someone approaches and light is needed. It will cut down on your electric bill, and flying nocturnal insects, and it should also be much more effective as a crime or trespassing deterrent. Light casts shadows in which 'up-to-no-goods' can hide. It also provides a spotlight view of doors and windows, or purloin-able goods. The shock factor of a light snapping on when someone trespasses is very effective. It says 'you have been detected'....See MoreWhite spots showing up on wood floors
Comments (6)Question 1: have you tried to clean them up? If so, what has worked? Question 2: are these white spots showing up 'underneath' things like sofas, chairs, etc? I've seen something like this ONCE...it turned out to be (wait for it) spider droppings. Yep. Spider poop. Fly droppings are dark brownish stains whereas spider droppings can be white. And they often appear underneath sofas or tables/chairs that are not in heavy use. I can't be sure as to what they are...but it is possible it is something other than mold/mildew....See More- 12 years ago
