Never watched it the first time, won't watch now. Not into soap operas, but I know lots of people loved it! Enjoy.

I think the commerical success of a show is a marriage of many things such as actor selection, director vision, successful storylines, and political and economic atmosphere (since people enjoy escapism more during difficult times). When they try to duplicate that 25-30 years later, it's impossible. I enjoyed Dallas the first time (until the infamous shower scene), and also watched it religiously, because of a lot of factors. My kids were little so a Friday night adult-show was our "night out". J.R. was the first likable unlikable villain on TV, and it was fun to watch a serial at night. Plus the actors playing the roles were compelling to watch.

I won't watch the new one nor will I watch the new Charlie Angels. They both belonged to a different time in my life and I don't want to go back. I'm much older and now prefer to spend my time laughing at the few good comedies today than caring about dysfunctional family drama, even fictional.

Maybe the new one WILL be compelling to those who didn't watch the first go-round.

No, I probably won't be watching the new version, although I did watch the original regularly when it aired "back in the day." Speaking of "Dallas", are you guys getting these shows filmed in/around Dallas in your area? "Big Rich Texas", "Most Eligible Dallas", "Texas Women" - ? I'm horrified. I've seen one episode of each of those shows, and am just astounded at how stupid and shallow they are. I guess they're along the lines of the "Housewives" shows - absolutely no substance, stilted acting and just basically cameras following the alleged lives of a bunch of d-bags. Ugh.

You know, I was thinking about this and I'm probably not going to watch it either. It was great in it's day, but now it just seems kind of tired or something.
And my tastes have changed since then, too. Now my favorite show is Breaking Bad.

Nancy, I got hooked on Breaking Bad a couple seasons ago. Almost wish I hadn't. I tend to avoid dark dramas and this one definitely falls into that category.

I don't watch many nightime shows, so I probably won't watch the "new" Dallas. But, I did hear that Tim Allen has a new comedy series coming out this Fall, and will definitely plan on watching that one.
BTW, I TOTALLY agree with Jen's take on the rest of those Dallas-based shows out now. And, sadly, with so many people out of work and families hurting in our country now, let me add "disgusting, insensitive and tasteless" to her right-on list.

DH and I were just talking about this 'remake' issue the other night. These remakes just don't make it because the magic is not there any more. What made the original so original is that it was different back in the day. The world has moved on, so to speak, and capturing the magic is impossible. Plus, if you watched the original, then you'll be comparing it to the original and not 'enjoying' the remake.

I must say, tho, that of the remakes, DH and I enjoyed 'The A-Team movie. We both loved the TV show, and I liked that they didn't try too hard with the movie, just used the essence of the characters instead.

Natal, small world! Did you know that "Breaking Bad" films some it's episodes right across the street from us? I know that they filmed quite a bit for this season nearby. They shot a couple of their "shoot out" scenes for this season in the road near my house. They posted notices on our mailboxes ahead of time to warn us, so that we wouldn't all freak out when we heard gun shots (LOL!). We didn't but our dogs did! I'd walk the dogs in the mornings and the actors would be wandering up and down my little street/road talking on their cell phones. The main road would be lined up in both directions with many MANY cars, trucks and big white vans hauling props and whatever. We don't live in Albuquerque where they shoot their city and city house scenes, but north of there in the mountains. They use our little local library just down the road from us to park the actor's private trailers and the caterer's trailers while they shoot. I am constantly amazed at how many people, trucks, props and miles of wire/lines they need every day that they film! I don't watch the series myself, but if you see scenes this season with a lovely, LARGE adobe hacienda, an old windmill, (gorgeous) pool scenes with several guest houses in the foreground and mountains and mesas in the (close) background, a cool small log cabin guest house, or drop-dead interior hacienda home views, that's my neighbor's home that BB rents occasionally to film at. BTW, they just announced (locally) that this will be "Breaking Bad's" last season.

That's neat Lynn! I've never heard of that show. Per the OP's question, I won't be watching. I never got in to the original Dallas, so have no interest in a sequel.

I watched the original Dallas back in the day. But, I decided to work on my bedroom the night JR was shot. I can't believe I did that. (lol)

Lynn, that's sort of cool, as long as you aren't inconvenienced. They shoot quite a few movies around town here and typically announce street closings on the local news.

I don't think I've ever seen the hacienda in the show. When you said this was the last season I had to check. Looks like it's the next season that will be the last. I'm ready for it to end, but can't stop watching, lol.

I don't normally watch that kind of show, but for those of you who do, I hope you enjoy the new series and that is as good as the first! Must have been good if they are doing a second series so many years later.

IIRC, wasn't "Dallas" an Aaron Spelling show? He's passed, so I wonder who is the creator/producer, etc. Back in the day it seemed as tho all of the Aaron Spelling shows were popular.
