Armstrong Grand Illusions Warning
Comments (77)I just had 610 sq ft of Grand Illusions Cruevo (spelling?) installed and found this website just a day afterward when I was looking for information about the spacing of transitions. The installer recommended that I needed a transition between the kitchen and living room which is an open area with an island separating the two spaces. The entire length is only 35 ft and according to Armstrong's website, a transition is not needed. I have noticed some crackling noises but the installer said that my subfloor was not perfectly level and that Grand Illusions is the only laminate that makes this sound. Right now it isn't too bad and he said it may disappear altogether once it is all settled down. I am majorly concerned about its durability. The installer marred the boards in front of the refrigerator when he moved it (and it has rollers) and he has to come back and replace them. I have spent about $30 on felt pads to go on everything touching the floor and hundreds more on area rugs because I just set a stool on it and it scratched the board, which is way too delicate for what I expected from a laminate. The finish is beautiful but it's like have glass and any fingerprint shows. The pro about this flooring...it is beautiful!...See MoreArmstrong Luxe Vinyl Planks - any information?
Comments (5)I had been searching online for a less expensive price on my lvp flooring. Riverwoods flooring gave an excellent price but I could not find out anything about them. I did as much research as I could. I did find they had an excellent BBB score with no complaints. I called and talked to them a couple of times. They assured me they were a brick and mortar store and that the warranty would be valid. Although I have heard that the flooring companies will fight you on warranties citing an installation issue. Anyway, after much debate, I decided to take a chance. I ordered US Floors Coretec Plus LPV Carolina Pine. The price they quoted was $2.99 per sf. I ordered my flooring on a Saturday and it was delivered the next week. It came excellently packaged on a pallet. The boxes were name brand boxes with US Flooring on the outside of the boxes. We have not opened all of the boxes but the ones we did open, the flooring is perfect. No damage or nothing negative to report. So far, my experience has been excellent. So at this point, I would have to recommend them....See MoreLaminate Flooring over Hardwood Floors
Comments (45)I second the suggestion for the waterhog mats. I'll post where we purchase them if I can find the link - you can get custom sizes, colors, styles, etc. LL BEAN sells them too but they are very pricey IMO. We use them around our dogs water bowls too since they are sloppy drinkers. In addition to our entry way, we also use them in the back of our SUV's in the cargo area since we travel with our Boxers. Keeps the truck nice and clean and absorbs liquids. After my dog had surgery he peed in the truck on the drive home from the vets office (post-anesthesia, if I remember correctly) and I was thankful for that waterhog mat. Not a drop of urine on my upholstery; the waterhog captured all of it, and it was easy enough to clean -- I sprayed it down with a hose and some cleaning solution, left it out to dry and no residual smell whatsoever. They're awesome mats....See MoreI need someone to share a positive experience of laminate!
Comments (59)Melamine is a plastic -- it's just that there are many types of plastic. The outgassing of formaldehyde (now this isn't a plastic) is far reduced than that outgassed from, say, presswood. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Melamine resin Melamine resin or urea formaldehyde (also shortened to melamine) is a hard, thermosetting plastic material made from melamine and formaldehyde by polymerization. In its butylated form, it is dissolved in n-butanol and xylene. It is then used to cross-link with alkyd, epoxy, acrylic, and polyester resins, used in surface coatings. There are many types, varying from very slow to very fast curing. It was initially discovered by William F. Talbot,[1] who applied to patent it on December 12, 1936.[2] Construction material The principle use of melamine resin is the main constituent of high-pressure laminates, such as Formica and Arborite, and of laminate flooring. Melamine-resin tile wall panels can also be used as whiteboards.[3] Melamine formaldehyde is used in plastic laminate and overlay materials. Formaldehyde is more tightly bound in Melamine Formaldehyde than it is in urea-formaldehyde, reducing emissions. *** I commend you in doing the best you can in going green and helping your little 2-year old. I assume you are also looking into the best products for floor adhesives. You say the concrete in the basement is already poured? I'm wondering if just leaving that floor as is - except for a few area rugs -- could work for you? You could still use the laminate upstairs and save money for other purposes down the road. Laminate, if the right pattern is chosen, can look good, and will stand up to many years of use and abuse....See Moreglennsfc
