how to transition carpet colors in doorway?

i am replacing grey carpet that is throughout much of the house. most will be tan but I'll be using some sort of dark blue in a bedroom. I've read about how some people create a seam under the door - is that the typical transition method? Is it a clean transition? will that look strange with the strong contrast between dark blue & tan?

my other choice may be to use a transition molding piece that will match the laminate flooring that i put in the rest of the house, including an office floor a few feet away across the hall. I found a T-mold piece that is designed to be used between two pieces of laminate, but would it still work between carpet? I used baby threshold for the office laminate::hall carpet transition.

any thoughts on those or other options?

thanks so much,

lisa
