Dogs for your cat. These sculptures were placed in front of the Las Palmas Cathedral more than 110 years ago. The Canary Islands name is derived from dog; and dogs are featured on their flag. Only after the islands were named did someone see the bird on the islands that has become known to us as a canary.

Red and white lighthouse --- here's one. Assateague Light House from when we were there for the famed pony penning where wild horses are driven from Assateague Island to Chincoteague Island where some of the horses are auctioned off to control the herd size and to raise money for the care of the rest of the wild horses. Here the lighthouse can be seen in the background as the cowboys are starting to drive the wild horses into the water for the short swim to Chincoteague Island. Here are some of the ponies after the swim. Some of the ponies are selected to be returned to the island for the good of the herd, these are "auctioned" off anyway to raise money, but the person "buying" the horse is essentially making a donation to the organization in question. This is the horse that my wife "bought", where the money was being donated to the local hospice organization. She did so because of how helpful hospice was for her mother in the preceding couple of years. We decided the foal should be named "Papa Bear" after her mother's nickname for her father.

Hareball- it's funny he's black but in the sun he looks chocolate. We have called him so many different names but since we found him out in the woods he has never responded to anything but Kitty Kitty. No matter what I call him he stares at me blankly but when I say Kitty Kitty he acts like that's his name so now that's what we call him. Haru is beautiful please keep sharing pics! Whenever someone posts a cat, I can't help but post up my baby too. I am glad that you are here.

Jean - is there a problem with water in that area? I see the sandbags and the doors have some sort of dam in front of them. Love the ivy stenciled on the door jam of the red doors...

This was last summer, after a flash flood. The water was very high! Some business had to rebuild.
It's a wonderful little town, about 15 minutes from me. We LOVE going there.

LOVE Manitou Springs! I used to love to go there when we lived in the Denver area. Did the gold mine tours and so many great shops there. I always took our visitors there for a view of how the old towns were. It really has changed a lot though.

Raven, I'm sure it HAS changed a lot. It's very touristy now. Parking meters and all. And, crowded any day of the week. But, the shops are wonderful, and it's fun to go people watch. Kind of like an outdoor mall! LoL

ravencajun....I've LIVED in Manitou Springs for 23 years now. Lived in Colorado Springs & Boulder, nearby, before that. There are NO gold mines. Maybe your thinking of Mollie Kathleen mine in Cripple Creek?

There used to be a spa there in the middle of town, which is now where Adams Cafe is located. This was the epicenter of the flood last year.....due to the fires devasting the area around us.

We are now making history as a town that sells pot.
