are shower body sprays worthwhile?
Comments (11)Some people love them, some don't. I've had people lump them into the whirlpool tub category. Where they use them everyday for the first week. Then once a week for the next month. Then they only remember they are there when company comes over. Personally I don't particularly care for them. My wife doesn't like them either. We like our 12" rainhead and our regular head, but chose to omit body sprays in our own master shower. If you do consider sprays you may have to increase the size of the shower drain. I'd reference your local code during the planning stage to prevent any surprises during construction....See MoreDo you like your body sprays?
Comments (11)I enjoy the body sprays in my shower which are temperature controlled by the same thermostatic valve that the showerheads are connected through. You simply need to install a temperature control valve that is large enough to supply all the emitters you're likely to have on at the same time. Either a 3/4" valve or a 1" valve, depending on flow rates of your various emitters. That being said, if you live in a place with high water rates or a high sewer tax that is determined by water usage, you'll want to be conscious of what you have going on in a shower. Shower heads are limited by federal regulation to dispensing no more than 2.5 gallons per minute. Oddly, there's no restriction to the number of shower heads that you're permitted in a shower, so technically, you can blow through as much water as you want. Showering with a single shower head will use a maximum of 2.5 gallons per minute. If you've got a shower head and 3 body sprays going simultaneously, you're now going to be using 10 gallons per minute (2.5 gals per emitter). At that rate, a 10 minute shower is going to send 100 gallons down the drain. It doesn't take long for the costs associated with a luxury shower to really add up. You also need to keep this in mind when sizing your water heater because you'll be using 4 times as much hot water, too. As much as I enjoy my body sprays, I now limit their use to a Sunday morning treat -- for only a portion of my shower. I simply can't justify their use on a daily basis. It just seems wasteful....See MoreMaster Shower - Body Sprays
Comments (16): ... really? "stupid 1.6 gal toilets". Aren't we talking 15 year old code. You'd think people would be over that... DH (watching the game): Ahh. Life is good. DW: HONEY. The kids plugged the toilet. AGAIN. DH: sigh. The game is... DW: PLUNGE IT - NOW! The kids are late for soccer. DH: But... DW: NOW! DH: stupid &*(#@#$&*) government mandated &*()&*%^&^%( toilets.. DH: Wheres the plunger? DW: I put it in the garage. It didn't look...pretty. TV: That was one of the greatest plays in football history! Watch this replay! DH: Stupid &*()#&*() government mandated &*()^(%^%^* toilets... Gov't mandated 1.6 gal toilet: splush. splush. urk. blech. DH: Ok, its done. TV: Wasn't that great? Now some words from our sponsors... DH: &(*)&*^&^% next time &*()&*(&^&^ Al Bundy Mighty Ferguson U*OP*&&*^&*^%^%$ : ... I am building a high end custom home and would not do body sprays. I know that I would use them once and then conclude that they are a terrible waste of water... (Next week. Overheard at the high end custom home next door): DH: Gosh this game is good. Hey honey, come check out the 1080p on my new big screen! DW: Here is some fresh popcorn and a cold one. DH: Oh baby. Come snuggle with me. (game continues) DH+DW: (crunch, crunch, snuggle, snuggle) DH: How 'bout we take a nice post game shower together. DW: Mmmm.... DH: Maybe I'll even turn on the body sprays and get us nice and steamy... DW: Purr....fect... DH: BTW, did you hear about the couple down the street? D*** was watching the game last week. And right in the middle of it he had to plunge the kids toilet. Missed the best play I've seen since Howard Cosell was announcing. DW: I sure am glad we paid the extra $1500 for those fancy toilets that actually work. DH: Yeah. Its too bad that when the government bowed to the pressure groups, the Japanese held the 'good' patents. So the American manufacturers ended up losing about 10000 good paying jobs as a result......See MoreBath and body lotions, scents?
Comments (21)I also have to be careful with scents. They not only make me have a headache but my eyes itch and sometimes I will break out in hives. From Bath and Body Works, I can use Moonlight Path - a light lavendar scent. I also like White Citrus. Anything like the musk scents (Sensual Amber, even though I like the smell of it) will make my eyes itch with in a few minutes. I recently have been on a search for a new scent in lotion or bath powder since I can't wear the perfumes. I found one I really liked but hubs didn't care for it. It was Cashemere by Donna Karan. I can't describe it but I put some of the lotion on and it didn't bother me in the least bit and the scent lasted. I ended up with the lotion for the fragrance Beautiful since I had worn the perfume years ago when I still could and l liked it. Hubs liked it but not the price! Oh well, it goes under the Christmas tree so it made it happy - less shopping for him on his own. Put some of the ones you think you may like on the little cards they have at the counters and lay them on your dresser. See which ones you can tolerate. As I said, the Moonlight Path at B&BW is the best day to day one for me. The body spray is too much but the lotion is good....See Moregolddust
