help! grout turned out much lighter :-(
Comments (1)There are some dyes or stains that are penetrating types of colorants. They'll even out or change an uneven or blotchy color to a certain degree. Sort of like staining wood, you still have the texture of the existing grout, but the color has changed. There are topical colorants too, they are film-forming colorants. These are great if you need a wholesale color changes, going from black to white, or white to black, etc. While they may penetrate a little bit, they mostly form a film on top of the existing grout. More like painting wood. Some are epoxy-based. If you have a natural stone or a soft/porous stone, you need to be careful with penetrating colorants, or acid-based stains, that can penetrate into the porous stone, or acid-etch a stone tile. Glazed porcelain tiles are easier, a little less risky to work around....See MoreHelp with Bleached Wood grout with a lighter tile-Pictures please!
Comments (14)I wasn't the OP, but I chimed in on this thread with a photo of the sample grouts against the tile we were considering. That tile is HEATH CERAMICS MODERN BASICS M18 CHALK; Size: 3”X6”. For grout we went with the Custom Building Products Fusion Pro; color: Bleached Wood #545 and could not be happier. I also made a sample board with Bleached Wood, Oyster Gray and one other alternative color grout and that gave me the confidence to move forward with Bleached Wood. Finished look below....See Moredoes floor tile grout dry lighter or darker than sample card?
Comments (2)" am wondering if the grout will appear lighter or darker than the color card after it dries....." Yes it will dry lighter or darker. Color and brand dependent as well as how it is mixed if powder vs premix. I would make up a sample board, as there are to many factors that influence this....See MoreThe grout color is lighter than we expected - what now?
Comments (11)I think grout can be stained if it's not sealed yet (ask your tiler). in that case, I imagine it can be put on in wide strokes and wiped off the tile. or if it is sealed, there are products like "grout renew". I wouldn't recommend it for a shower or any area that needs to be cleaned often. it's basically paint and will eventually chip off with regular cleanings. for a brand new shower, I would not want to add that level of maintenance....See Morebill_vincent
