what do I use to fill cracks on old hard wood flooring

I just read a post about this topic but I need a bit more information.

I am restoring an old floor in my kitchen that I found when we took up the lineloum. We had to replace some of the floor boards which we were able to harvest from the back of an old closet. Actually the kitchen was 2 rooms at some point in the past & we are running 3 boards on the perpendicular to fill in where there was once a saddle.

I have a bit of spacing along the perpendicular because the space I am filling is not perfectly even & I do not want to even out/enlarge the space and add another board which would widen the saddle.

The space I have runs about 1/16" to 1/8" & is intermittant along the length of the boards. What do I use to fill in this space so it is not so noticeable & food/dirt will not accumulate in it?

I saved some sawdust from the boards as we trimmed them before installation but I don't know if this space is too large for this kind of fix.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.
