There are differences in these ranges and only you can determine what is the most important to you. I have a Wolf DF, sealed burners and love it. The burners heat very evenly. I think your cookware can contribute the most to even heating, much more than the burner. I have read on some of the cookware forums that the way heat is transferred it actually goes to the center of the pan and it can actually get hotter than the outside or at least heat a lot quicker. I made potato pancakes the other day in a relatively inexpensive aluminum pan and they cooked perfectly evenly without changing them around in the pan at all. Sometimes I will kind of rotate them but decided not to and see what happened. They were in a 14 inch pan. I also make caramel in a 7 inch pan and it turns very evenly. The burners all go well below simmer to just warm. We entertain a lot and I love keeping mashed potatoes or pasta warm without any chance of scorching. It does not have as many BTUs as some others but I threw 2 lbs of boneless chicken, cut up in to stir fry(in the same 14 inch skillet and it caramelized very nicely. There used to be a poster, a chef, here several years ago that said one of the advantages of the star shaped burner was that you could use a cheap thin pan and it would cook more evenly. I don't know too many that cook on these ranges that use cheap pans though. If I stirfried a lot and wanted heat at the base of a wok, I would consider the Culinarian. On another thread someone gave the advice to pick the three most important attributes to you and find the range that meets that criteria. I love the oven as well. When I bought this range I had never had convection or the various modes but now I wouldn't be without them. I like being able to direct the heat as in the convection bake mode from the bottom for pies and quiches especially and from the top in the convection roast mode. It also has two convection fans with heating elements that keeps the heat very even when the range is full. I would buy a Wolf DF again in a heartbeat. Some though don't like the computer boards so this might not appeal to them. The all gas convection has a fan that turns on and off to provide the air movement. Some all gas ranges also have the infrared broiler. Still if you like a star burner, you might look at the Bluestar as well. It is good to hear about the Thermador. They installed burner "shields" under each burner. Once in awhile (unless I am now jinxing myself!) if I try to light a burner at the moment (or just after) the gas is whooshing into the just-lit-oven, burners might balk at lighting, or lighting completely, but if I wait a minute or, two, it's usually fine. Luckily this rarely happens. We kept our island trim. Others involved in the original issue appearance had either swapped out or ordered their ranges with higher trims, and still experienced the problem. Wolf techs insisted the problem was not related to the trim, but the guys from two different Wolf-affiliated svce companies have told us otherwise, so who knows? FYI with the white glass tiles/white grout and island trim. When roasting/cooking at high oven temps/etc., the tile and grout tend to discolor (from vented heat, grease,.....). I've had some success cleaning it off with Dawn Power Dissolver and/or HD Clean (from STT--ordered it when I purchased their sealer for the bathrooms) and using a blue scrub sponge. I love the walnut cabs I've been seeing over on the kitchen forum. I'm sure yours will look terrific! Our hood looks nice and works okay, but isn't the best we could have gotten as far as functionality (a concave hood canopy with a better capture area would do a better job I'm sure). We chose form (and less noise) over function in this case. The cab between the range and the fridge is 24", and then there is the piece that makes up the side wall of the fridge cabinet.

I like that my Wolf has the same power, high and simmer, on all burners. I believe in the dual ring of flame over Thermador's star burner. If I wanted the star shaped flame, I'd go with BlueStar. I don't know which Wolf you're going for...the open or sealed burners...but my open burners have 1 grate per 1 burner, so they're not too heavy and awkward to move, but the Thermador and sealed burner Wolfs have 1 grate per 2 burners, so dbl long and dbl heavy. Wolf has the higher BTU ratings. Do you have natural gas? If you're using propane, the Thermador offers only 13K BTUs instead of 15K it offers with NG. The Wolf is designed for the type of fuel used, so there is no BTU difference. The other reason I didn't consider Thermador, which probably doesn't apply to you, but we wanted a 48" with all burners and no griddle or grill, and they didn't offer that configuration. I think Thermador has a 1 yr warranty where Wolf has a 2 yr. The only problem I've had with my Wolf is that the grates had little rubber feet that degraded very quickly. They make a new type of grate now, which they sent immediately. They also sent new underpans, since they weren't 100% sure the new grates would fit the holes in my original ones. They did fit, so now I have 2 sets of the underpans, just because Wolf didn't want me to be inconvenienced with a 'wait and see' plan. The great reports about their customer service is what pushed me the last bit toward deciding for Wolf. I obviously haven't used a Thermador to compare. I am very happy with the performance of my Wolf. Not all that crazy about the shiny black under pans for cleaning, but at least I can take them out when necessary. I was concerned about the sealed vs open burner issue on models like Thermador. But you will hear both sides of that argument here, and it seems to have to do with personal preference, as well as cooking and cleaning style.

Our steam oven In the 48 inch model was leaking then stopped working. We finally had it replaced. New model came. And it leaks too! If you get that Thermador with the steam I don’t think that steam oven will last. They could never figure out how to stop the leak to replaced it. Needless to say we aren’t pleased the new model leaks too. Very frustrating with what seems to be faulty engineering.
