Dura-Seal Matte Clear Coat (too light)
Comments (1)This is the perfect application for a glaze. This is a heavily pigmented product applied between coats of finish. You can manipulate while wet with a rag, or better, a brush, to your liking. Let it dry overnight, then top coat. Repeat if needed, but stop if it starts to get too muddy. You can use a gel stain as a glaze, or you can buy a glaze base and have your paint store add pigment to your spec I can't see the photo clearly enough to tell, but VanDyke would be a logical choice. If you get a "glazed" look from the guy behind the counter, go somewhere else. Here is a link that might be useful: glazing...See MoreEnglish Chestnut Stain on Oak?
Comments (16)Don't know if this will help or not but, Here is a chestnut wood table with my wood floors. My floors are Red Oak. The center of the medallion is Early American, the rest of the floor is Provincial, and the trim is Provincial on Cherry. My point is that your stain can be as dark or light as you wish. I think our floors only have one or two coats of stain, followed by a satin sealer. I would have preferred several coats of the Early American because it looks the same as the Provincial, where I wanted a contrast. Try one coat of Chestnut on your floors, and if it's not dark enough, try another coat. I think that your floors will soak the stain right up since they are so old and white. Also, remember that while one board may be dark, another will turn out light, and the same goes within each board....See MoreStain Mixing: Jacobean + either Red Oak or English Chestnut?
Comments (1)I think it depends on how much red hues you want to have. I have the same dilemma. Our builder installed red oak natural floors, but will switch to White oak if I want to stain it. I don't want much red hues, as my wall color is a light gray and baseboard and trim are pure white. I love those cool tones. I like the bottom one, if that helps!!!! Have you looked at Special Walnut? Its a little lighter. i want to stay in the medium stain range, as I know dark is harder to take care of....See MoreBona stain that is close to English Chestnut for white oak floors
Comments (7)Did you have a poly over the samples or just the stain? He will be putting them on the floor, he says he can custom mix any of the bona colors. I’m thinking about Spice Brown, special Walnut, Red Mahagony, and maybe Provincial. The provincial isn’t warm enough for me I don’t think, but maybe mixed with one a little warmer? Here are some I like-...See Morehollywboyer
