almost any carpet retailer will be less than Home Depot. You pay a $50 measure fee, you pay for pull up and disposal and many other misc charges with Home Depot. There are many problems simply because HD contracts with subs who don't communicate with you but with the store and there have been many posts regarding poor communication. Your also paying for all the carpet and labor up front, not so with a smaller dealer. If you think you got a deal god bless you

First off I hate Homedepot,,,I rather shop at lowes but I knew the carpet was a deal.....
I ripped up and thrown away my own carpet.
As for the $50 for the measure fee,,,($35) it comes off of the price if you do buy your carpet from homedepot.
I just think the only good thing Homedepot is good for is their carpeting thats on hand.\

yep you can have a crummy installer.
The 2 guys that installed my carpet scratched a tad of paint that I have to touch up
and they left 4 bags of carpeting for me to throw away.
Yep I could have called the store and I guess they would have had to take the bags away but I feel its no big deal for my garbagemen to take away.
The carpet and the job they did was good.
My local carpeting store wanted double the price and they also had to order the carpeting.
To me I feel I got a great deal to have my living room ,hallway,Steps,2 closets and family room done for around $1250......
Other the the carpeting I would shop at lowes.
Lowes also sells carpeting off of the rack also.I didnot know that until it was too late lol...Jt

Did their installers use a power stretcher (pole stretcher) to stretch the carpet in several different directions... or did they use knee kickers? Did they use a seam sealer on all seams? Just curious... I'm not a carpet guy.

I know they used a tad of glue where I told them
to put my television cables under....
Overall I am very happy and think I did great with the price...
But if I had to do it all over maybe I would checkout Lowes
because they say the will move your furniture within the price lol...
I would tell everyone just go to a lowes or homedepot and let them look at the rolls of carpeting they have in stock on rolls.
Nobodys telling them to buy it,,,,but you will see a big price differance....Jt

You obviously haven't suffered in a hurricane strickened area. Specifying which race of people did or did not complete their work satisfactorily was appreciated by all those out there needing to hire someone to do their work. I know now I'm stereotyping. Get over it, it's the way things are.

You're right, Brutuses, I have not suffered in a hurricane-stricken area. On the other hand, I believe that the OP lives in Pennsylvania, and I haven't heard of any major hurricanes there recently.

And specifying the race of someone does not in itself make you a bigot...but shouldn't specifying that person's race be relevant somehow to the conversation? The issue that was originally brought up, and not by me, was that specifying the race of the installers didn't appear to be relevant.

If I were of Latino heritage, don't you think it would be offensive and hurtful to know that many just assume me to be an illegal immigrant just because my name or appearance are Hispanic? That's the point I was trying to make. I have had the Berber carpting Homedepot put down for a Month already.
I have not seen a problem with the carpeting but then again I don't have kids running around in the house.
For the price you cannot beat Homedepot.
I am sure they have contractors that really suck.
But I guess I am kinda lucky that the people that did my carpet did a great job.
Homedepot saved me lots of money.
I really HATE homedepot
But I would checkout Lowes first because with lowes they move your furiture so the sign says......
I would never buy from local carpet dealers again when you have HD and Lowes at better prices
