Lupus

I have an appointment with my rheumatologist next Tuesday and need some advise before I go in. First let me say that I have always followed the experts advise until now. But, the last recommended medication change resulted in what we believe to be remicade induced lupus. Previously I was being treated for RA. I've had RA since age 8 or so albeit a mild case most of my life. In recent years it became more debilitating hence the remicade. I am being treated with methotraxate and prednisone presently. The last three months or so it has stopped being as effective so we began tapering off on the prednisone last saturday. I am going to have to replace the current treatment with something else and am here to see what you guys recommend and what works for you. I have done quite a bit of research but still don't have any concrete idea of how well these drugs actually work from anyone who might be taking them. I would appreciate any help you might have to offer.

Talk to a pharmacist. They know more about medications than doctors and if you deal with the same pharmacy they will know what you,ve taken and what works for you. They also hear back from their customers and dispense many different meds.

My sister took her husband to the hospital with bad chest pains. 4 days before he was given antibiotics from a specialist in preparation for surgery, and his own doctor had prescribed cholesterol medication. The day after he started taking both he started geting pains which steadily got worse.

At the hospital they started doing heart test after heart test. My sister asked if it could be the meds. because that's when it started. The doctor said no. A nurse took my sister aside and told her to go down to the hospital pharmacy and ask them. She said that often doctors just don't know all the ins and outs of medications. My sister did and the pharmacist said those 2 together can cause pains all over the body. That was exactly what it was. When he stopped taking them the pains went away.

I know this has nothing to do with your meds. but it goes to show--If you want to know about medications, ask the person who knows--ask a pharmacist.

Scary, ain't it? I sometimes think I was better off taking otc nsaids alone. Everytime they give me something new a new problem crops up. Now I not only have RA to contend with, I have lupus as well. I can't increase the methotrexate as higher doses causes liver problems and I can't take remicade as that started the lupus problem and I can't take enbrel and humira because they're the same type drug as remicade. I did talk to the pharmacist about a new drug on the market, but she didn't know anything yet other than what I could find on the internet. This drug is one of the things I'll be talking to the doctor about on Tuesday. The drug is called Anakinra and the upside is it's not the same type as the rest but whether it works or not is the question.

I have artiritis plus 2 knee surgeries I found this tool out of town then another # Local Lowes I like the extened handle I think you can get them in spade,rake etc. Like the handles also but you can also get into a website for the handicap and it will give you advise on there. I think I just typed garden tools for the handicappe. Good Luck.

According to my doctor, there is no definitive test for lupus, but based on my SED rate and ANA, she thinks that is my problem. The most important thing is to try and manage my life such that I rarely HAVE to be somewhere at a certain time and to recognize that between pain and the loss of sleep due to pain, I just can't operate the same as other people. It is really hard to do because I look healthy. When, as a child, I complained of leg cramps and loss of sleep I was basically told that I was a lazy liar. I still expect people to see me that way. I don't think they do, but I imagine it anyway and will sometimes over-do on that account. Good luck to you. I guess I don't have anything very useful to add. I am taking Lyrica on an intermittant basis. My doctor doesn't know this but the weight gain is so bad for me from Lyrica that I have to limit my exposure. It does help me sleep though

Hi Susan, I have a lot of fatigue issues that increase tenfold when I am stressed, depressed, anxious, etc. I understand how hard it can be to just get the bulk of daily chores done. I tend to take mental stock of what is around the house- thinking of things that I know are there and that I wouldn't mind parting with. No need to necessarily go through a whole cabinet, but pull out 4 old beer mugs that I know are in there and put them in a box to donate. Sometimes I aim for just 10 minutes of this type of work a day, depending on what is going on. If you do 10 minutes a day, a few days a week, in a year, you will have spent a fair amount of time and probably eliminated a lot of things. It's that old adage about how you eat an elephant-- one bite at a time. Where I live, we are fortunate to have several organizations who will happily pick up any donations you might have, and they are available to come by once or twice every week, even for just a bag or two of stuff. This is great for me because it means I can schedule a pick up, put a few boxes and bags in one space (add to them as the date approaches) and then just stick everything out in the front entry on the given day- and it is gone to new digs by the end of the day. I just finished reading a book that was very good- Clutter Busting by Brookes Palmer. He emphasizes over and over again that 75% of the stuff in your house is weighing you down, and that you are more important than any material item in your house. Reading his book gave me a lot of clarity on how to go through things, he's got a lot of tips about recognizing when you don't need or want something, but are making excuses up to keep it. It's been a helpful and inspiring book for me to get going again. I'll warn you that he has a few stories in there about people who have health problems that he decides are just mental clutter, and related to the outer clutter, but if you can accept that there are some hypochondriacs out there, and don't feel like he's telling you that all your health problems will go away if you declutter, then the book has a lot of value. One thing that I will contend is that, you will probably feel better as you make this go away. But be patient with yourself and do things as you can, and one day you will wake up and realize that it really has changed. (((HUGS)))
