What makes you think your soil lacks Calcium and Magnesium? What usually is missing is one or the other so they are not in balance. So if your soil has a fairly large Calcium number the usual recommendation is to apply dolomitic lime which has Magnesium, but if the soil is a large Magnesium number then you would apply Calcitic lime. Sometimes if the Mg and Ca are in relative balance Gypsum is suggested to aid in raising the soils pH. Just how long it would take to adjust and balance your soil depends somewhat on what you add. Since this is an organic gardening only ground limestone, either calcitic or dolomitic is what you will add and it takes several months for the soil bacteria to make that available and balance your soil and id why the best time to apply limestone is in the fall.

Good answer by wirosarian. It is important to know whether results are reported in pounds per acre or parts per million. The results page should say. Some experts say the ratios between potassium, magnesium, and calcium are significant. Others say it doesn't matter as long as there is enough of each. In your other thread you reported that calcium is nearly 20x the magnesium (very high ratio) and that magnesium was only slightly higher than pootassium (fairly low ratio). With your extreme calcium levels, it's possible that more magnesium could help by creating a more normal ratio. On the other hand, magnesium levels considered on their own are OK, depending on the unit being reported, so it may not matter. So that's why I said on the other thread that a moderate amount of ES wouldn't hurt in your case. I think you should do a test. Divide your roses into two groups. Divide the punier roses equally between the groups. Write down the groupings. Give one group 2 TB epsom salt in a gallon of water and the other group just a gallon of water. Then compare the groups in a month and see if there's a difference, especially in new basal growth. If you put ES on all your roses, you'll never know, and you'll probably be dooming yourself to repeating the ES ritual forever.

We add epsom salts, gypsum and micronutrients to our soil mix, along with a balanced (13-13-13) slow-release fertilizer, but all in fairly small amounts. You can always supplement later on, if need be. Gypsum is organic, epsom salts I'm not sure. You might ask the folks on the OG forum. Fish emulsion is more nitrogen than phosphorous and potassium. Depending on the brand, the N-P-K seems to run 4-1-1 or 5-2-2, somewhere around there. Since that is comparatively low, there's somewhat less risk of ODing on it, but you'd be better off supplementing the P and K, especially for Neos and other things where you want to keep the foliage color. A high N count will give you a soft, green strappy-leafed plant-- okay for a Vriesea or Guzmania, but not what you want in a Neo or Tillandsia. Again, the OG guys could tell you what to use better than I can. I've never used fish emulsion, but I've heard that you don't want to use it as a foliar spray, because it can gum up the trichomes on the leaves. I don't know if this is true at really low concentrations, but if so, I'd think it would cause the most problems on the Tillandsias-- Gonzer, have you used this on yours? Sparingly is good advice for home growing, but for commercial production you have to juice it up just a bit.
