but at least homedepot will stand up on their
product if the installer screws up,,,where most other litttle stores will not.......
I think their install price is $159 for 2 room and $199 for the whole house and dose not matter how big it is.
The lady in carpeting said they lose money with these jobs and that they are great deals.
They have a half decent large selection that you can pick from.
Will let you all know when the job in compleated.

The difference in what the installers are really making per house is rolled into the cost of the carpet... all carpet, even the carpet sold as cash & carry. Depending where in the country you are, the installers get between $2.50-$5 a yard, not the 199 you think they get. That difference is rolled into the price you see on the carpets, especially special order.

the price for install can be also $3-$5 a foot.....
The carpeting I am buying is the same carpet that I bought 6 years ago,very good capeting.That all homedepot sells at all of their stores already on the roll to cut.....
As I said
I am sure homedepot would not hire people that do a Lame job otherwise homedepot would have to send people to correct their mistakes....

On the other hand if I was going to have someone to do tile work in my bathroom ,I would avoid homedepot.
Carpeting is more of a no brainer to do.
And as I said before
Carpeting at 69 cents a foot and penneys a foot on padding.
$199 is a great deal.(all home depots have that price and you cannot say they all do crummy work>>
And as I said the local places want double the price on carpting,the other carpeting Might me a tad better but not double the price better.
And in 2- 4 years I can just spend another $1200 and redo
it again if I want too.

Johnny - I would make sure you know all the details about your purchase. In my area Home Depot pulls from the same pool of installers that many other flooring stores use. This is done by a sub-contractor and not Home Depot employees. Labor is a issue in all parts of the country. Some are good, others are not. Home Depot is a good source for flooring, sounds like your deal is too good to be true.

I also heard of the $199/whole house install special at Home Depot, asked about it a couple of days ago at my local HD and found out it was going to run until the end of 2008.

My neighbor just installed their whole house carpet on a Lowe's special and I think they said that was $99? This was a couple of months ago.

In my area, carpet installers charge around $4.50/yd. This week, I'm going to shop at a place a carpet installer I talked to gets carpet from, which he says will be a lot less than what HD charges for the same quality. I'm just interested in the bottom line price for comparison. We'll see if my savings on carpet will offset or exceed the savings HD offers on installation.

I went to a local place first since I could not remember what I paid 6 years ago at Homedepot.
They came in and the people that measure were nice but the capeting was a bit high and they have outside contractors to do the install.......

The day after I felt let me checkout the Homedepot.
At Homedepot you can order whatever you want and pay
top dollar also....
But in Homedepot they have a area where they have LARGE rolls in stock to pickout from...
I saw a few nice peices of Carpeting.
And with the $199 intall sale(whenever it will ever end?)
I knew I was getting a deal...
I even did my family room with their low prices......
So for $1250 I am getting 90 square yards with Padding and steps done.
Yep I have to rip up my old carpeting and throw it away myself.Not a big deal,,,save $300 on that....
My local Homedepot use one local installer company.
I am sure lowes has great deals also,but I never really checked out to see if they had rolls of carpet in stock.
But I just bought a Pella slinding door from lowes with blinds built into them for around $1600

But as I said for the 69 cents a foot plus whatever.
I know I am saving $2.00 a foot from the local carpeting places...

Home Depot limits that special to carpet over a certain price. I was the Mohawk rep and I called on Home Depot. The instock carpet is absolutely the cheapest ones we used to make. The 'commercial' level loop was about 16 oz and far from high quality. The berber was also the cheapest grade Mohawk made. Your labor prices are way off. No one charges $3 to 5 a ft. That equates to $27 to $45 a yard for labor. If you want to think your 'saving' money go for it, but they add additional yardage onto the sale and there will be extras.

You are right there were a few crappy and cheap looking carpeting on the rolls.
As for the Berber,it looked as good as the $3.35 one at my local carpet store.
I am sure if you have lots of kids and spills maybe you might want to look somewhere else....
To me they look the same and I am sure it will last
many years to come..
Even if its the cheap Mohawk,,,I am sure 99% of the people will not notice a differance...........

Well that's it!!! I'm raising my prices!! Pad cost me .20¢ a foot and .61¢ a foot labor is $5.49 a yard.

That's it I'm going to $3 a foot, pad and labor! That is $27 a yard.

Well you forgot that includes the carpet also..........

We used HD for new carpet & padding installation last year. They did an excellent job - sent carpet installers from a large city 1 hr away from us. I really, really wanted to use local folks but the cost difference was just too huge with the HD install special and carpet sale price. No one locally could come close. (And yes, we normally prefer Lowes or using local folks.)

I think you guys all work for Home Depot. No one ever thinks their prices are competitive and if a local guy can't beat their pric4s they have to be crazy. HD marksup the labor plus the carpet. The only real deals are the 'carpet of the month'. Those are hard to beat. Think about it, if they are special ordering carpet for you they are just like any other store. They stock almost nothing so they are ordering from a Mohawk or Shaw whse like everyone else. Where do you think the big savings come from? You probably are a big fan of Direct buy as well.

I don't know what your store sells
My local home depot has many to pick from.
And we are not talking about special ordering.
What they have in stock is what you get.....
I am glad many got good deals and good installs.
the only ones complain are the carpet installers on this site.
I feel that there is not much of a selection on Berber carpet,but the berber that I picks looked good....
Yep I don't like Homedepot and always shop at Lowes also

My DH has repaired many a bad HD carpet install... including the latest one... the installers failed to fully install carpet through the entrance to the den. Carpet can't be stretched to meet the tile in the den and must be seamed in. Fairly easy project if they had left some scraps, but they didn't and HD will only send an inspector out to approve the claim... All DH needs is 10" x 4' to seam in... Good luck with your carpet.

I bought some real nice carpeting, on sale, at Expo (HD's 1st cousin)a few years ago and had them install it. By buying a little more, it was figured that there would be an 8x8 piece left I could get surged and put under our dining table, over hardwood flooring. Well, being in Ca., the installers didn't speak much english, or only when they wanted to, and when they were finished - no 8x8 remanent! Expo finally ordered me another piece, but I had to fight for it, and I doubt I'd ever buy from them again.
