Looking for alternative name for HD's Mohawk Smartstrand carpet

Would love if anyone could help, esp the big carpet gurus here.

I'm sold on triexa aka smartstrand, mainly due to my research here in the flooring forums. I went to home depot today, and after flipping through their display, we settled on Mohawk's smartstrand Command Performance III, at 58.8 oz and 5.5x5.5 twist. It's a plush, i believe. Unfortunately, the price is $3.99/sf. With an $8lb moisture barrier pad, we're looking at $4.75-$5/sf, which is about what i'm paying for my solid brazilian cherry hardwood!

So is this as good as it gets for the smartstrand in this heavy weight? Since HD's names are different, i was wondering if anyone knew the comparable product name, so I can try to comparison shop. Any leads would be appreciated!

I'd like to know also. I've yet to find a cream color I like. I keep seeing the smartstrand display with the triangles. Thai Silk looks pinky to me.

I guess I don't understand how this works because I see more colors on the website.

Go to http://www.mohawkflooring.com and search their dealer locator for a Mohawk Color Center or Mohawk Floorscapes dealer close to you. These dealers should have the full assortment of Smartstrand carpets.

I have Mohawk Smartstrand carpet in my home and have been very pleased - installed about five years ago and looking great.

. . . and now it begins I had SPECIFICALLY insisted that the carpet be power stretched. It was written on my order. It was written on the installers' job sheet. So what do I find when I check on their progress? A stinger. Which punches holes in the carpet and is explicitly prohibited by the CRI. I took a picture of it and emailed it to Lowes, and told them that the installer had violated the Mohawk warranty requirements. And hopefully didn't take chunks out of my subfloor in the process, but probably did. The installation team manager called Mohawk to confirm what I told him, and they said yes, stingers are a no go. So, I told them they are going to have to do it all over again, with new fresh materials, and do it right. more fun.

Like the mattress manufacturers, the carpet manufacturers give their carpets different names in every showroom so you can't price match. Southernmost Point may be the name on the Mohawk site and in a number of stores across the nation, but it might be known as something completely different in the store down the street and something different again at the Lowe's or HD. They are all the same carpet from the same manufacturer with the same exact warranty, just a different style name. The best thing to do is to get the specs on the carpet--what kind of pile is it and what is the weight. Once you are armed with that information, you can price shop for yourself, but you may not be able to get anyone to price match. Lowe's & HD have been given super low pricing by Mohawk that the regular dealers have not been able to get, so Lowe's & HD are able to give pretty much the lowest price out there for the same product. Thanks, Echo. We actually ended up going with the local guy. We got quotes from Costco, HD and a local family owned store. Costco's quote was ridiculous. They were the most expensive on installation, with extra charges for just about everything, including a random $10.00 MISC charge, which even the sales guy couldn't explain. The local guy had one charge for the install, which was fully baked with rip up and removal, furniture moving, steps, binding, etc. No separate itemized charges. His entire install was less than Costco's basic install before all the Costco extras. The local guy was also able to beat HD's price on everything but the Silk III (lower twist), and we elected not to go with it because we wanted the better carpet. Another item I thought was interesting was that local guy was able to get the Mohawk spec sheets which cross-referenced HD's and Costco's Mohawk carpets to the Mohawk styles he sold. So, we knew we were comparing to apples to apples. Neither Costco nor HD could do that for us. In fact, the salesperson at HD didn't even know Mohawk put out a spec sheet on the carpet. The install is scheduled for next week but so far we have been happy with the price, knowledge and customer support provided by the local guy. He says he has been using the same installer for 8 years so hopefully all will go well with the install.

You might try calling Mohawk directly and asking some of your questions. They most likely won't give you answers to all of them. Look at the website for their retailers and you should be able to find one that has the wall of colors. I took sample boards from Home Depot which listed the weights and twists,etc. and compared them to other stores that did not have the information listed. The retailers can get all that info for you by calling Mohawk. Mohawk would not give it to me when I called. I chose Roaming Spirit which also goes by the name Windwalker. They do make it difficult by allowing different stores to give the styles and the colors different names and of course different prices. Mohawk will also send you samples of styles and colors so that you can carry them from store to store. I have had 2 rooms installed already and the rest of the house will be done on Monday. So far, I love it! It is incredibly soft.

I went to the locator yet the Floorscapes dealer I saw today didn't have everything I'm seeing on the Mohawk website. They just had the standard display (triangles) and one other type. I'm personally getting frustrated with this. And all the different names and some places carrying only a few, etc.

I'm looking for something similar to Thai Silk color on the big display board but less pinky, a bit whiter, more 'cream'. There's a deadness to these colors to me. But this is definitely more pinky vibe.

I saw a 'potential' at Home Depot but the board was lent out so I couldn't tell from the 1.5" wide swatch.

Does Home Depot have their own colors in Smartstrand? Is it hopeless to find the same color or type one sees at Home Depot at a real carpet store?

Nope..same colors @ normally more on the display @ home Depot. Lowes has it also

I was looking on mohawk's website, and couldn't find Command Performance III as a style. i had read that you can find the corresponding match, but it won't be the same name, and you have to do some detective work. Would you happen to be able to find the name? :)
It makes it hard to comparison shop. I don't really want to buy from HD, since they have such mediocre customer service...

ok, for anyone who's still interested, I ended up purchasing Mohawk's intelligent style, in the heavier weight. I even tried calling Mohawk, and the rep was very nice, but firmly said she couldn't help me. I finally spoke to an online retailer, and they said that according to her information, CP III would be intelligent style, so I just went with that. HTHs.
