Front entry stairways - any pictures or info??

I am doing an oak stair case with the square ballisters and the sq post newels. Cottage style. I have always had a runner going up the center of the stairs with oak showing on the side. BUT I AM SICK of the dog hair that sticks to this runner and it is so hard to clean. I a little worried about the stairs being slippery without a runner as I now have a 16 mo old grandchild to worry about.

Anyone have just the wood without the runner? Or how about an oriental type runner where the carpet is so flat and wouldn't catch the dog hair as easily. I have a couple of oriental rugs and they don't seem to show stuff as much as a regular carpet.

We have solid oak treads on our stairs and don't have a runner on them. My daughter has slipped a couple of times, but in the 5 yrs we've lived here[built it] I have never had any problems. The stairs lead to our upstairs family room and is used all the time.

We just put solid bamboo on our front stairs, but we've been walking on plain wood for over a year. No problems at all. We have two sets of wood stairs, to the second floor and down to the basement.

I have no intentions of putting any sort of runner down.

We are just getting ready to dig the end of this month, and it is a total of 3548 sq ft. 2 story. It is 80 feet wide and about 43 feet deep and then a 12x12 sunroom off the back of home. It has a 2 story foyer. All brick and stone front. Hipped roof lines. No other vaulting in home except for the 2 story foyer. Inside the front door and off to the left is the staircase and there is an opening going into the dining room right before the staircase. We currently have on the plans a front door with sidelights and a large arched "eyebrow" window above the front door.

RH Cappuccino in entry, stairway and loft??

I would go on line and order the little $3. sample pot. I had BM match the cappuccino for my hallway because the local RH was out of it. That was the one color he did not have in his computer. It took him quite a bit of time tweaking it from the stuff i had left over from my office but eventually he got it. The initial match that the computer did was not even close so he played with it until we pretty much got a perfect match. The one thing he could not match was the subtle velvet finish which is why i normally just use the RH paint. Wow.. I just checked and the subtle velvet cappuccino is STILL on back order. I have not been able to get a can of that since before Christmas.

There is significant disappointment on our end as well as the builder that this was missed by the architect along the way. In fairness to the architect, the builder allowed us to work with the architect to develop the plans we love prior to any $ commitment from us but he did not want to pay for the survey until we were invested. So, here we are. We are disappointed because the length of the home has been established for several months and the width of the property has as well. The survey and site plan were just officially performed but the inputs are the same and have been known...so we are disappointed but still love the floorplan, location, etc. and want to make the best runner up choice we can :)

We had maple flooring and then added tile with wood edging. Didn't want that worn run look that hapens about a month after you move in. Would submit a picture, but I'm not sure how to do that on this site.
