It just seems that way, but it's really just the media shoving private things down our throats. There are plenty of couples still together, but you never hear of 15, 20, 25 year unions...until they break up. I wish the media would do the opposite and make a big deal about anniversaries instead.

Another one that really surprised me some time back was Sean Penn and his wife Robin Wright. Although he's so intense I can see where he might be a little hard to live with.

Intense is one thing, abusive another.

Huh? What? He was abusive? I never heard that but I don't read a lot of what is written because you never know how true it is. Very sad if true, as a victim of severe abuse I can say it takes a lot to mend from it.

He was physically abusive with Madonnna. Did he serve time? I'm sure it's on the Net.

well, that's a bummer, I just knew he & Robin Wright had been together for a really long time and had kids.

I think it's called the sweet smell of success. It seems when people go Hollywood their marriage goes south, in many cases not all.

Coincidentally, I just read a book (What the Dog Saw, by Malcolm Gladwell) with chapter on Cesar. Interesting life: Cesar entered U.S. illegally from Mexico as a very young man, and married young. His concept of marriage was that the wife should serve the husband's every need, and soon his wife insisted upon marriage counseling. He didn't appreciate the marriage counseling at all, but while working with his dogs one day, he had an epiphany that his wife had needs -- same as the dogs he trained. I kid you not (and no joke required.)

My parents were shocked when some of their friends divorced after appearing so content for decades. One such marriage had gone on for 43 years and it turned out he had had a mistress all along and had drained their retirement money to even buy the mistress a house to live in. The wife was clueless all along. There were a lot of shocking stories that went with these sudden divorces after decades of marriage. One such husband, on the very day he retired from his job, announced to his wife that he was also retiring from the marriage and promptly moved out and filed for divorce. The wife was stunned.
