Zoysia Sod Scalped by Mower
Comments (4)Yeah, I figured it would very slowly come back. In March HD, Pike and Lowe's sold sod by the piece. Now they sell it by the 4 pallet min. except for Pike which does not sell Empire sod. I'm not a fan of Zoysia, cause it goes brown in the winter but with this Empire Zoysia I don't have to mow and water it as frequently as my old turf Fescue lawn....See MoreLawn Tractor Is Scalping My Lawn
Comments (5)This is a common problem for mid-mount mowers. They normally ride suspended from the belly of your tractor. If your tractor wheels dip down, then so will the mower. It has anti-scalp wheels to stop this, although you don't want them to be normally riding on the ground. My lawn has one spot with a sharp rise. At the very crest, I would always scalp it, even with the anti-scalp wheels set reasonably. The simplest solution, if you cannot solve it by dropping the anti-scalp wheels, is to fill in the deepest holes. John...See MoreScalp-a-thon 2017 COMPLETE
Comments (15)Howdy Phil, I do remember your project. The choice to scalp really depends on your preferences--If you don't mind some Brown stems in your Bermuda or plan to keep a high cut, probably don't bother. It's not a small job, even with a small lawn, but last year's lawn will not go away on its own. Luckily you have another month or so before your scalping window will close so there's no rush to decide. With celebration that window may be even longer, I can't believe how early it's greening up compared to the 419. Randy, I believe in spot spraying about monthly thru the whole growing season, so go for it. I agree with turf life on the 3-way herbicide for these apps, but not for blanket apps--The 2,4D will weaken the bermuda a bit. For nutsedge & crabgrass I use sulfentrazone exclusively. The product I like is called sedge ender & has a preM mixed with it already....See MoreIs it possible to tell difference between Francee and F Albomarginata?
Comments (26)I love the curves of the new bed..it will be beautiful filled with plants..it's great that you're finished and ready for winter..I'm not :-( we had very strong winds Saturday and now my yard is a big mess..we started 2 piles of limbs..there's green leaves that were ripped off of the trees all over the ground..but nothing hit the house..one shrub was ruined..it could've been worse..a small branch hit me in the head but I'm fine..you can see some hosta in the pic with the bigger limbs..they're still green but are covered with sticks and leaves and look smashed..I love trees but they can be so messy.....See More- 19 years ago
