I am starting to read some of the fine print. The Flickr limit of only 200 photos available for viewing at a time - and only being able to upload a certain number per month - are dealbreakers for me. When I finally get around to organizing my photos so I can share them with family and friends - I don't want to have to only upload a small number of them per month - I want to do them all. I imagine that after the initial batch, there won't be as many - until I digitize my slides - then I'll have another batch, etc. I know folks like Flickr - but those 2 limitations are big ones for me. I finally found the full list of services that can be used with framechannel - it does also include smugmug - and picasa, photobucket, webshots, flickr, facebook. Only photobucket and picasa will work on my Tivo. If there were a way to access my photos from my computer to my Tivo (and there must be) - then I wouldn't have to worry about using a hosting service to view photos on the tv - and I could just use the service above the most meets my needs. Anyone know if I can get my computer's photos to show up on my Tivo (I know this is getting far afield of the topic). I think using multiple hosting services will be a hassle for me - so as good as imageshack sounds, if it doesn't work with framechannel, it might not be best for me. before I rule it out, Raven, can you tell me what the firefox extensions for imageshack allow you to do that's so handy? I would like easy of uploading, no limits on how much to upload or store (although I don't imagine storing tons - I do think it would be more than 200 pictures - and periods of more heavy uploading than others), good organization. I guess so far it's between photobucket, picasa and smugmug. Further pointers and considerations are still appreciated. Lynn.

I used freeservers.com for a fast learning site, but now I'm further along and for the next web page I'll be developing for another site and this web page will have a survey type form. That means I'll need a cgimail service which calls for a site with a few more options. CGI is all new to me. Another thing too is if you don't want the host changing your html to make it compatible with it's server try to get a server with the same platform as yours ie; Windows95/98 with Windows NT server, etc. Also decreases upload file hastles because of incompatibility. Try to get a host that has browser upload option which will save you fiddling with FTP. Find out if you have to have a banner page and where you have to place it. You may have to modify your script. Some sites you don't need a banner page. They say geocities is a favorite but find they're not to generous for a free site.

Is this a webpage that is on your hard drive? Or is it a webpage space provided by a host on a remote computer(remote means a different computer than yours). If the webpage is on your hard drive, i would make a folder under "C" and call it html. Then in the folder put your html document and all related files including pictures. When you open your browser and click file/open and browse to the html folder and click the html document you will see the webpage. The coding should look like this on your webpage if every file related to the page is in html folder. (img src="8loopy.jpg") It is not good to use any caps in file names or extensions with html files. Many webspace hosts do not allow CAPS. Some Unix host puters wont even read caps in file extensions so the picture doesnt show on your webpage. All you get is a blank space with a red X in the corner. If this html file is on a server then you need to put the image in the same folder on the server and use the same coding on the webpage. you CANNOT call for a picture on your computer from your webpage on a host computer. Get a free FTP program and learn how to use it to transfer your files to the webpage space on the host server. JamesS

I have done several using tripod.com they have very simple to use templates and nice sites, easy site builder tools. You can sign up at a few places and try them out see what you like best then go with that one.
