itchy eyelids ... HELP!

Occasionally my eyelids along the lash line get so awfully itchy that I want to scratch them ... & do!! Eye Doctor said I needed to apply very warm wet compresses to both the lower & upper lids but this hasn't helped much for very long. Anyone else have this problem & had any successful remedies?

At this time of year, it could well be some sort of allergy to pollen.

Anti-histimines might help. you would have to take them a couple of days to see any improvement.

Dry eyes make mine have the same feeling. Of course the allergies make the eyes itch as well and anti-histimines for the allergies make the dry eyes worse. I use eye drops for my allergies but I also use Systane for the dry eyes and when I put them in, I gently coat along the lash line and it feels so soothing. I have heard that using baby shampoo on the eyelids helps but I have been afraid to try that. Try the Systane, it has something in it that regular eye drops don't, feels really good to put them in my eyes.

Poison Ivy and other rashes: Homeopathic remedy Rhus Tox 6X-30C strengths. Works like magic. Fire Ants: Lightly dab bleach on bites and rinse off after a minute or two. You will get no reaction what-so-ever from the bites/stings they produce. Dilute to 20% for children and do not use on very young children or anyone with sensitive skin.

Even though THIS SITE is selling something, it seems like a pretty good source of info on what may cause dandruff: scalp yeast imbalance. Click on "All about dandruff". (Note, I do not own Johnson & Johnson stock.) :) I have used tea tree shampoos in the past. They feel nice for sure, but my problem just got worse. Some shampooing alone can remove flakes and give the appearance of helping, plus that "tingly" feeling will override the itching for a while. I would definitely recommend seeing a good dermatologist. My problem was intermittent, the occurrence and severity often related to stress. It was worse in winter as the site says. In addition, the dermatitis irritated my eyes. My doctor proscribed Nizoral. This worked! There are also OTC versions of Nizoral available. I have also used prescription and OTC T-Gel shampoos as well. Luckily drandruff shampoos do lather up better than they used to. This makes it easier to use a minimum amount for savings. Do yourself a favor and go to a dermatologist. Whatever he/she recommends, you will save a lot of money and frustration from ineffective OTCs (like Head and Shoulders) and herbal solutions. Good luck!

I've had problems as well and made two visits to my dermatologist in November and December last year. I've stayed away from skin care products (face & body) containing fragrance for many years. My doctor told me to switch to fragrance free laundry detergent and dryer sheets----something I had not done before. She gave me a steroid shot, a perscription and samples of a new antihistamine called Xyzal. Also wrote a perscription for Zyrtec in case my insurance would not cover Xyzal (Zyrtec is now OTC). For daily skin care she recommended Cerave' cleansing and moisturizing lotions (also comes in a cream) AND I'm washing my colored hair in Head & Shoulders. I'm doing much better. I'll probably switch back to Claritin this June and see if that works OK. Mayo Clinic's info says that Xyzal, Zyrtec and Claritin (just in that order) are best for those of us with skin problems. NOTE: Cerave' does a great job cleansing my face---great job removing makeup. I get it at CVS and Rite Aid stores where I live. Check Cerave's web site for other retail stores.

My dog is allergic to grass and I give him Benadryl for it. He's 20 pounds and it is usually controlled with just one child's chewable tablet daily. My vet told me that dogs have quite a high tolerance for Benadryl and he could take much more than that if necessary, but I can't remember the upper limit she told me.

I will have to try the 'baby shampoo'that doesn't burn when in the eyes.. I too have heard it may work. I also read about a teeny, tiny critter called ?demidex that we all have on our bodies (& eyelids!) that Nature has provided to eat away all excess dead skin cells our bodies slough off every day. Some times these critters get too numerous & cause things like itching!!

I tried an allergy pill & don't seem to get any relief yet.

With allergies, ONE pill doesn't do it! You must treat allergies for several days to do the most good.

In fact, if it is an allergy, and OTC pills don't work, you may need a stronger prescription strength medication. If it continues, check with a local allergy specialist.

My eye doctor recommended washing your eyes with Johnsons baby shampoo. I was getting grainy stuff in the corners of my eyes and it stopped that and helped a great deal. It's hard to wash off if you take baths instead of showers. My eye doctor "shampoos" his eyes every day. He said it is good to prevent eye infections.

I had itchy eyelids for months, despite warm compresses and lid scrubs. I finally figured out I was allergic to my eyeliner/eyebrow pencil.
