What is really sad is the fact that most of these criminals cannot buy anything other than basic liability limits and the average American suffers. When no one wants to insure these repeat offenders anymore they are assigned to assigned risk, with again basic limits. Or they have no insurance at all and they are happy only as long as they can continue drinking or getting their next fix. They are self centered and are soul less. In many states one does have the option of buying high amounts of coverage on uninsured and underinsured motorist coverage to protect yourself. Drinking, drugging, or eating a gun does not make the problems go away for anyone. There is a solution; find God now. The "estate" if any, will no doubt be left to face the facts. I believe family members suffer the most. Some either refuse to get out of a bad situation, or see no other alternative. Ann, I believe in caneing. I don't believe in keeping 7% of our population or whatever it is now behind bars and ignored. Carla, I believe attorneys can be useful at times. Let them do what has to be done and let you and your daughter rebuild your lives. I suppose it is one of those when bad things happen to nice people things. Our heart goes out to you and hope that you and your daughter find closure to this evil deed.

LOL!! I once read a joke somewhere that got me out of a speeding ticket. I got pulled over for speeding and when I asked the officer if there was a problem he said I was speeding. I said, but officer, I was only keeping up with traffic. I didn't realize I was speeding. He said - Ma'am there was no one around you when I pulled you over. I said, I know, I got bored with the last group of cars so I was trying to catch up to the next group. He smiled - and let me off with a warning. I didn't really think it would work, but I figured, I was getting a ticket and a moving violation- may as well lighten the situation up. And for the record, it was 7:10 in the morning on a Saturday and I was on my way to work, there was NO ONE on the road. Hehe. I try to watch my speed since then.

bbear, I'm so very sorry for the loss of your precious son. All of your and your wife's feelings at this time are perfectly normal. When you lose your child, you have lost part of yourself and your entire being is affected and will be changed forever. I know the feelings because I too, lost my only daughter/best friend, just one week from her 20th birthday. She was trying to save the life of our dog who had been hit by a car. She was then hit by a truck as she was hovered over him and trying to wave traffic around him. I'll give you a link to her site if you would like to "meet" her. I imagine that your son, my daughter and all the others loved ones who have left are together now. It will take probably several years, and as much as you may believe that you won't ever feel better, I promise you, the pain does lessen. If it didn't, we certainly would not be able to survive this world. I would say that for at least a year, I was in a total daze. Looking back on the 6 1/2 years since she has left, I really don't know where the time went. I think I have been and still am in a fog. Night after night, I would even forget to eat. The hours passed by and I was there, but not there. I remember 7 months after Christin left, I was going to visit her at the cemetery and crossed a railroad track. I remember hearing something behind me the minute I crossed the track. I looked in my rear view mirror and a train zipped down the track where I had just crossed. I don't remember seeing it as I was approaching. In this state of mind, please try to be extra careful driving. As hard as it is to believe, the time will come when you will think of your son and smile. You will begin to feel happiness and gratefulness for the 20 years you had with him rather than focusing on how much you've been cheated of by losing him. It may take many years, but eventually, it will probably come. It is so good that you can openly cry. My husband does also and he doesn't care who sees him. I think this is a very healthy way to heal. Actually, he is more open with tears than I am. Those tears of sadness can come out of no where when you least expect them, but crying is supposedly cleansing. If you don't express your grief openly, then it will eventually come out in one way or another. I'm so glad that you found us and please feel free to post as often as you like and on any topic at all. No matter how bizarre a feeling you have may seem, someone here will probably have experienced it and can maybe help you know that you are not alone. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Lu Here is a link that might be useful: Christin Cosby Memorial Web Site

I have to say despite the way we kids (my brothers and sister) had to grow up we all did better for our own kids once we started having them. None of them (my nieces, nephews and my own 2 daughters) had to go through what we did. They all have drunk free parents and were put as a priority in their family. We knew how it felt so we didn't want to put our own children through it I guess. One thing we (my brothers and sister) all do suffer from though is we do not sleep through the night. We usually wake up sometime in the early morning and find it hard to get back to sleep. I think it is because dad would go on his drunken tyrants many times light at night and come yelling into our rooms waking us up. So we all became light sleepers. But other then that we have all turned out to be productive, happy people that are close nit. You can either choose to let drunks beat you down or rise above them and do better in your own life. We all chose to be better then my dad. NancyLouise
