floor for small galley kitchen

I will be eventually getting new cabinets and counter for my small, gross, galley kitchen, but not soon. Meanwhile I am having it painted and want new flooring. Currently the cabinets are fake very light wood formica with a light almondy grain. When I get new cabinets they will either be white or a light wood, as the room is too small for anything darker. I don't want a tile floor, too hard on the feet, and from what I've read, laminate does not go well with kithens and dog bowls. So, I am debating with myself what to do. Is there a realistic looking vinyl with a wood look that would look good in a small galley kitchen with light wood to white cabinets? My kitchen is so narrow that two people could nto pass each other. :( Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I did not see anything in previous discussions in a light wood look.

There are 'lots' of choices today in realistic looking wood-look sheet vinyls. The printing technology is really that fine today.

Go to a full service flooring retailer that has a good assortment of major manufacturer displays and have a look.

@mgmum I came across this post because I'm investigating black Alicante countertops. Yours look fabulous! You really pulled off the look of real soapstone. It looks like you possibly had them thinned a bit? I've read about people having them taken down to 3 cm (apparently that's the normal thickness of soapstone?). Can you share any insight on this?

Love your choices. The crystal hardware seems a little formal for the slab cabinets but just my opinion. Would they be the copper tone shown? I don't see the peninsula on the floor plan. Am I missing it or is the plan drawn without the peninsula?

In answer to the questions above (I cannot figure out how to comment to each individually - weird): 1. I've been waiting four months for my Bosch 500 series dryer. However, it appears I finally will have it installed this next Monday - the 20th! I learned a lot about ordering appliances from a big box store vs. small appliance store, and I recommend strongly using your local appliance store over big box any day of the week. 2. Thanks to all re the stainless counter. I'm very happy with it. As for cost comparison, given that it's 130" with a built in large sink, backsplash, and drainboard, I'd have to look up those individual costs, but it was less than $4,000, including freight (which was from Charlotte SC to Atlanta). Given that it comes with the plywood attached, the labor cost of putting it in was minimal. It took my contractor's crew all of 10 minutes to get it from the loading dock, up the elevator, to installed.

The BM store near me has a vinyl wood floor that I thought was real hickory wide plank hardwood flooring by the look and the feel! I was amazed! I could try to find out the manufacturer for you.

Take a look at Stainmaster Optique. I have it in the Charleston Maple but there were other colors that may work for you. Most people think it's real wood when they see it.

I attended a distributor's show recently where a manufacturer was showing its 'wood' offerings in a side by side comparison. I could not immediately say which one was the vinyl, the laminate or the real wood. I had to get down on my knees and tap it to know for sure.

Suffice it to say...I was impressed.

Do you know what brand that was? I tried to find a comparison online of the various brands, but I couldn't. I want something realistic looking, but scatch resistant and long lasting.
