'The Notebook'

I'm going to see "The Notebook" tomorrow. Have any of you seen it? Do you think it will make me sad after just having lost Mom to Alzheimer's? I heard that it was really good.

Lulie....my son and his GF went to see it. He told me he thought I'd like it, so the next week, he and I went to see it! On a scale of 1-10....I give it a 10!!! It's a very moving love story!!
Take tissues!!! I didn't and left the theater with makeup all over the sleeves of my shirt!!! lol

If it's half as good as the book, you'll love it. I had a terrible time trying to read the last chapter because I couldn't stop crying long enough for my eyes to focus. I hope the movie conveys the rich depth of the love between the couple. Yes, take tissues.

Notebooks, The Record Keepers

I'm behind on my record keeping (ouch). I have an Excel spreadsheet which badly needs updating, with roses sorted by class then by name, with the nurseries or individuals I got them from, and some other information. The Excel spreadsheet doesn't give enough room for adequate comments, and I've been thinking about a parallel text document with rose varieties listed in the same order as in the spreadsheet, but with unlimited room for text. But I haven't started it. I also have written and drawn maps of sections of the garden and of the propagation beds where I start cuttings, very important in case labels get lost, which they do all the time. I accept that labels will not be my primary source of identification of plants in the ground, and that their labels will need to be replaced periodically. About pots, by an evil magic they lose labels constantly no matter what I do. Recently I've taken to punching holes at the rims of plastic pots, threading ties through them, and attaching labels to the ties: I defy these labels to disappear! Labeling the pots is the only way I know to keep order in the pot ghetto, which contains probably a couple of hundred plants of every description. Currently we probably have 500-600 roses in the garden and 300-odd varieties, spread out over a couple of acres. Keeping track of them is difficult but important. I've learned I can't trust my memory--and I have an excellent memory--and that I need multiple forms of documention, so that if one source fails I have another. Also that I need to keep better order in paperwork like invoices: saving them isn't enough, they need to be accessible and in order, but hitherto I haven't succeeded in this. I have other plants I would like to keep better records of, including lilacs, peonies, and violets, none of which I have satisfactorily documented. Melissa

What Did You Do? Laptop? Notebook? Kindle?
Q

I am 49 and love all this new technology as I have been a gadget person all my life since atari he he. I have a full size tablet and a kindle fire and I have used a friends little dell netbook to see if I would like it. The small keys on the netbook were not as bad as I thought but the netbook itself was too slow for my taste but we were at the bookstore and I am used to high speed Internet at home. I have used my laptop in the recliner and find it ok but much prefer using it in bed on my lap while watching Tv. My kindle fire I love in the recliner and bed. So much so I joined netflix for $8 a month and put the netflix app on the fire and even though I can watch all the netflix stuff on the computer I find I prefer watching it on the kindle. I find myself using the fire more and more at home instead of the laptop to surf and check email. My vision is such that I need my glasses only for distance. My close up vision is so good I find even with the progressive bifocals at times I can still see the kindle or computer screen better without the glasses. Myself I would keep the kindle and learn how to use it from the recliner to read email and surf and then if I needed to do more would use the desktop but that is me so you have to do what suits your style. Yes, Google Chrome is a browser. No, you do not have to make it your default browser to use it. Just click on the icon for Chrome to open it, same as you do for IE. But you can have whichever one you want as your default and still use either one.

I guess you would say the ending is sad. I'm planning to watch it again. In the movie the girl didn't buy a B&B she was just helping out. I never could get through the audio book, but the movie is great!

Well, I saw it tonight and I loved it, but my gosh!!!!!!!!!!! My friend and I had a hard time holding back a major crying jag. When we got up, we both told each other that we wanted to just sit there for an hour and wail. Being that Mom just passed away from Alzheimer's and Mom and Dad had such a beautiful life filled with so much love to the bitter end, it reminded me so much of them.
A friend of mine made a special call to me a few days ago,to tell me that she wanted DH and me to go see it together because she said that the couple's love reminded her of the love that DH and I share. She told me that she has always been so envious because even though she has been married twice, she never had that obvious, passionate, love with anyone. I feel sorry for her that she hasn't, but seeing the movie and hearing her tell me that again, has made me feel grateful for being fortunate enough to live it personally and to have seen it in my parents. I know not everyone is that fortunate. I shouldn't take it for granted, I know.
I really do want to read the book after I finish some of these projects around here. Hmmmmmmmmmm, I hope I can still see when that time comes. LOL
Bump, I took your advice and brought kleenex to the movie, but tried not to have to use them because I knew if I got started, I wouldn't be able to stop. I did pretty well. There was a great big man sitting next to me crying his eyes out. It was sweet.

I'm so glad you went to see it and liked it! When we left the theater, the only one NOT sobbing was a kid about 9yrs. old! Guess they couldn't find a sitter for him!! lol

He was probably totally oblivious to what the movie was all about. Probably squirming in his seat wanting to go home. lol
I want my DH to see it, although he probably wouldn't like it like I did. I guess it's more of a "chick flick".
