What is the most realistic lamiate wood flooring

Hi everyone. We are in the middle of a total remodel and I have been given the task of selecting flooring that my husband can install. This limits us to laminate, engineered wood, or prefinished hardwood. The budget is $4.50/square at the max and this will cover our dining room and living room in our "new" 1919 home.

I have looked at so much and hope someone can direct me to the most "realistic" looking laminate. Also, the planks are much wider than they used to be as this is the trend. Has anyone used this and were they happy with the look of it?

Which wood species would you like the laminate to imitate. If you don't mind a rotary peel oak floor, Bruce Glen Cover 3" wide Engineered Wood Flooring many times goes on sale for $2.99/Sq. Ft that my neighbor's had glued down at $2.00 sq. ft plus the cost of the glue, quarter rounds and transition pieces. The floor in the butterscotch color is very nice.

I am going with the BR-111 Brazilian Cherry Triangulo engineered wood flooring.

Do a search for Brutuses and you will see her beautiful and very realistic Bruce Park Avenue Laminate Floors in almost a 5" with plank. If I was going to go with Laminate floors I would have chosen the Makore or the Pradoo "species" of the Bruce Park Avenue Laminate Flooring.

if you can find engineered in a 3 inch or 4 " plank that would be choice #1 since you can refinish a prefinished floor. My 2nd choice would be some of the newer laminates that come in smaller widths such as 3 4 or 5" planks. Some have texture like a hand scraped sort of look. I tend to avoid the 2 or 3 strips on one plank look as ultimately you start to see the seams and they look real fake. The newer kind are similar to engineered planks, some with beveled edges so each board is individual. Bruce And Armstrong make them as well as others. Shaw has the textured look I saw.

I read a difference in your statement. The builder asked for "dints and dings" and "on the walls". You found 500, but beyond the walls, to floors and not all dints and dings and what I would call "structural" but "cosmetic" needing cleaning, touch ups, etc. The input he was asking for is in the material, it seems and what you are offering back is perhaps his personal sloppiness along with that. I would reconsider what he was asking for, and perhaps hire a professional cleaner to remove the residue of the builder's passing, once he is complete. That way, he does his job, building. And you also get what you wanted.Make sense? ANOTHER great idea? Ask someone else, a family member, friend, co worker to do the same as you did, and see what their results are. What that would let you know is if you had possibly been over critical or not, see. Two heads are better than one, and they may see things you overlooked. Hope this helps. Sorry that I do not remember who made mine it is over fifteen years. But, when shopping, I looked down and saw a section of it on the floor. This tile shop had the entire space used for examples of their tiles. I can tell you that it looked exactly like it did when installed. I do not think that you would mistake mine for wood, but it has gotten many complements.(And does look like planks) The samples that I have seem now look even more realastic. These tiles met my needs for a high traffic room right off the garage.

What is the most durable, cost effective flooring for a rental?

I am going through the same thing with our rental right now. I wanted LVT for the kitchen area but I keep reading mixed reviews and a lot of mixed information. I think we decided we are going to lay ceramic tile down in the kitchen and use cheap carpet and pad in the rest of the areas. Lowes is running a special right now free deluxe installation on ANY carpet and pad purchase. You don't see that very often. And we will go with a speckled carpet that doesn't show dirt and stains easily.

Sounds like the engineered floors may be Brazilian cherry. Do you have photos of any fireplaces that you'd like to coordinate with? Natural finish (no stain) red oak wood floors are classic. Colored stains go through trends. A medium brown finish is another classic look. White oak (different from red oak) is having a revival at the moment with a no-stain or slightly white finish.

Thanks for the help! I am having trouble finding anything I like that isn't special order. My husband needs it picked out and able to pick up this week! He has a friend coming over the weekend that does this type of thing. I hate rushing a decision like this and these suggestions will really help.

Costco had been selling a product with a hand scraped look with texture that I like but don't know if they still stock it.
