Isn't it Weird???

Isn't it weird that even though our lost loved ones are on our minds and hearts almost constantly, for a split second sometimes we think we have to tell them about something or call them or give them something etc.? I did that a lot with Christin and now I'm doing it a lot with Mom. I think our minds know they're gone but maybe our hearts still are in denial or just can't get used to it.

Every now and then, even after 6 years, I'll do it with Chris. Do you all do this too?

For years after my mother died, I would think of something I needed to know and my first thought would be, "Oh, I can ask Mama!" Then I would remember. That finally faded. I still miss her.

There was a thread about this on the New England gardening forum. Some people had very few blooms on their Baptisia this year, although some has normal or profuse blooming. OK -- Here are Piper's problem blooms. First -- this is not a problem caused by insects. This big old growth in the center of the bloom is called "PROLIFERATION." Some would call that a "STEEPLE." Now, we can all discuss what causes proliferation. Opinions vary. I was told by Dr. Cairns that proliferation is triggered by an too much nitrogen. So I guess it can be said to be environmentally caused. BUT I have also observed that certain roses will do this, whereas others never do. In my garden 'L.D. Braithwaite,' 'Othello,' and some of the Moore Hybrid bracteatas did this ALL the time. I can't stand looking at it, and I won't keep a rose that does this more than once or twice. But not everyone is bothered by it. As to your leaves falling off, well, that is PROBABLY because it went through a period of heat in that 5-G pot. The same thing happened here in the last heatwave, with a young Buff Beauty in a 2-G pot. I think you have the rose in the ground, now, so that problem should be solved. Jeri

Something cutting down my Pulmonaria...

After reading your post yesterday, when I thought it might be a woodchuck, which I know eats my Pulmonaria, I woke up to this sight today. Something has removed the leaves from my Ipomea in containers on the deck. The vines are stripped, but the leaves are lying on the deck. I suspect squirrels, but I do not know why they are doing it. FYI, when Woodchucks eat my Pulmonaria, they do it during the day and Critter Ridder (basically cayenne pepper) is an effective repellent. Here is a link that might be useful: gardenphile.net

Well, Curly Sue is coming along after finally getting free. It's about 5 feet tall and new branches are unfurling. Here's a better look at the tip hidden in the flower buds. It is making its way past or through the buds. For now, it seems to be growing straight again. The plant on the other side of the Yucca is doing well. It is 10 feet tall and still growing straight. Some flowers are already opening up! I knew the bees and hummers like these flowers. Haven't seen any hummers yet. But surprisingly, little finches are flitting around the buds. I'm still trying to catch a picture of them. Do finches like to eat aphids? I noticed some today - it's nice being able to stand on the sun deck and look at the flowers! I'll have to try to blast them with water. No way will I use a pesticide while so many birds and bees are visiting!We had an electrical line break in the front yard. It was just for outlets and lights on the island, but it needed to be addressed. Unfortunately, the Agave that was blooming on the island was a casualty of running new conduit. Charlie was going to wait until it finished blooming, but I reminded him that it would probably be late spring! Here's the sad picture. I'll try to catch a picture of the finches. They are fast! And I'll be sure to let you know how things are coming along.

My brother was the great practical mind of the family... he always helped us with wiring, programming the vcr and all things computer. Having him gone is like... we realize how much he contributed, how he showed us his love by the generosity of giving us his skill whenever we needed him. Not long before his death I called him 10 times in one day to ask questions about some hard drives I was formatting. I can just remember his laughing voice, "No problem, cari". But now there are problems everywhere. It's a major, major ... loss, there are so many things he left behind. So many things we don't know how to do. Almost every day I think for a split second... but no, he's one. For the rest of my life, he's gone.

I used to do that all the time. Everytime the phone rang or when someone would be coming up to the door I would think of Lindsey. 2 years ago about a week before her accident my other daughter,Rachael, was in a county homecoming pageant and was in the final runner ups. We tried to phone Lindsey because we knew she would be so excited for her sister. Rachael got second runner up that year but this year she got queen. The first thing I thought of was to call Lindsey. She would have been so proud of her little sis. I was so happy for Rachael but yet I cried for Lindsey knowing that she should have been there with us. Julie

It seems you only realise their worth when they're gone sometimes. When my Gran passed away in 1988 I still thought for some while afterwards "I'll have to tell Gran this or that" and then remember I don't have a Gran any more.

Wow, this just happened to me this weekend. I was talking to my cousin about another cousin and her failing marriage... she has a 2 year old and works a lot of nights/weekends - the first thing I thought of, was have Christy move in with her to help.

Christy is one of their best friends, has been since childhood, she has a 3 year old son, her husband died last July - she died in May.

I just got chills all over when my first reaction was Christy.
