Don't know what buttons you'd want to keep and which to dispense with. In any event, I doubt you'll find exactly what you want anywhere. Something I've had some luck with at our house with elderly mom with macular degeneration and some dementia. Have a big TV universal remote purchased at Radio Shack. Using card stock and tape, I've blocked out all of the buttons except the ones she knows how to use. For us, that's on/off, volume up/down, and mute. Takes a little skill in construction of the cover because you have to put solid spacers under the surface of the cardboard to prevent pressure from unintentionally triggering a button beneath the cardboard's surface. Otherwise all materials are cheap and principals simple as can be.

It would be a cool device. You've had me thinking on it since I read your post. It's actually quite doable if the broadcaster would feel building the query database would be profitable. That's the kind of forward thinking that makes people rich!!!The possibilities are endless if it were implemented. One of my digital to analog converters has a pause on it when even on a live broadcast, you could pause the picture. If the tv is connected to the internet then you could use your pointer, type in "persons name" or "mountain name" or point to a food dish and query "recipe". I know a lot of folks have the newer tv's that wirelessly log onto the internet. Mine has a small keyboard that slides out from under the remote. It comes in handy when doing searches on netflix or, looking at ebay, facebook, etc. real quick right from the tv. It could surely work off that same principle and evolve over time into something even more powerful....good thinking on your part!!!

Look at control buttons on the front of the set. There may be "menu" printed above the vol or chan buttons, if so, press those two buttons (at the same time). Which should bring up the customer menu. Highlight the "caption" item and turn off. pw
