I use water cleaning & extraction 99% of the time. My go-to cleaner is a detergent (emulsifier) that has enzymes to break down protein (food and body fluids). Probably 80% of the time, this is all I use. If the stains are specific and not responding to this, I then use other cleaners. Besides emulsifiers, there are varieties of pH that various stains respond to, and stain removers that add or remove oxygen to allow the stain to be removed. Yes, it's applied chemistry, but water is a chemical. It's not much different than your laundry or dish sink. "Dry cleaning" uses a completely different class of chemicals. Besides being difficult to find someone that does this, it is not very effective (to ineffective) on ordinary soils. But before I do anything, I always check an obscure spot for compatibility. There are people out there who can successfully clean upholstered furniture.

We looked at the Lazy Boy recliners - the looks of some would work for us, but they weren't very comfortable for us. We got Ekornes Stressless sofas. They recline and are very comfortable. They don't have an integrated foot rest, there are separate ottomans to use with them. We got the theater seating grouping because we like having at least one arm rest per seat, but you can get them in a normal couch configuration. Ours are large (wider seat) but they also have a medium size if you need more compact. In depth (front to back) they are pretty compact because they use a metal frame which allows for a thin back. There is a high back if you prefer that. We got the low back because it makes the room feel molre open and it's high enough for us and we got a couple of their recliners for when we want a higher back. They are pretty expensive but I expect them to be a very long term purchase.

TY .. lzyB Design consult in place . In Meantime, I also did this post because have learned that LB has a no viable, for me anyways, in stock inventory . So unlikely this will be the answer since if we do return the Costco sofa, it needs to go back now and waiting 3-4 months or longer for both a SPECIAL ORDER NEW Sofa and Recliner is not doable. However, given that we probably can wait this long for a new Recliner.... Opinions are now sought on WHAT COLOR, solid or print NEW recliner to get. as noted in the above pic, we already have one chocolate brown leather heat and massage chair we will likely be keeping for the extra seating near our backyard window. Hopefully, just getting another NEW recliner will not only work short term but long term even if we do get another sofa in the future since we are 70 and not 90. Finally, it would be most helpful to also hear opinions on what type/size of end tables, pillows, rugs, etc to use to achieve a more balanced/cohesive/stylish look and/or to see pics of others who been less confused and way more successful decorating around their bulky reclining power sofas. Agree about the rug. Find a rug that’s a tad larger (so it appears to sit under the furniture). Find one with some brown in it, but with a different dominant hue - that will give you a starting point for adding color to the room. Right now you have a lot of brown and the rug doesn’t really relate to anything else in the room. Blues and greens are great colors to bring in - they are abundant in nature, so we can many times view them as neutrals. You may not need to paint your built-ins once you bring color in through a rug and wall paint. If you do, I wouldn’t go too glossy - maybe a low sheen closer to satin. The current stain color seems to work well with the brick of the fireplace, so unless that’s going to change, not sure I’d go too stark with the built ins. The current treatment downplays the asymmetry of the built-ins because they’re a similar value. With white, it would stand out more. If you do paint it, maybe a darker color would be better.
