How is Pergo XP from Home Depot?

Hello, we have finally decided to get rid of a very old carpet and to install laminate flooring. We need over 2500 sq ft, so financially it is a major expense for us, and therefore I really want to make the right decision; We are considering Highland Hickory (Pergo XP from HD)- does anyone have any experience with this color (and with Pergo XP altogether)? Or perhaps you can recommend some other color? My concern is that Highland Hickory is little too dark, but on the other hand it has this nice, warm, rich color... Or local HD did not have any samples of Pergo XP Peruvian Mahogany, but maybe it is worth considering as well.. Please help - any feedback and pictures will be GREATLY appreciated!

We just had the highland hickory installed last month. We are very pleased with the product...not so much in the HD installation. They contract the work put and we had a few issues regarding workmanship. We will not be using the pergo transition pieces or floor board, we stained and varnished oak. I love the feel of the floor under my bare feet. It seems to be a great product. We had concerns with it being too dark, but as every day goes by, i like it more and more. Good luck!!!!

Thank you so much! Do you have stairs, and if so, did the HD contractors do your stairs as well? We were planning to take the advantage of their $399 full house installation special, but we were told that stairs cost extra.. Also, how did you match the stain? We have older oak baseboards and we are considering staining them... Thanks again!

I purchased a box today at HD to try it before I buy a whole bunch. It seems very difficult to start a second row. The ends do not "lock-in" as stated in the directions. In the directions it explains to put the 2nd row together, then angle it at a 45 degree angle to "snap" it into the first row. This is not a likely option if the rows are more than 5 feet wide (it would take several people down the row for a 10 foot row to hold and angle before snapping it into the prior row- and with the ends not locking in properly each board slides out). We have had the Pergo XP (Extreme Performance) installed in our house for a few years now, and if I had to do it again, I would have used something else. In my opinion, the XP stands for Extremely Poor. The floor wasn't even installed a week, when a plastic cooler was slid across the floor when filling it to go on a trip, and it scratched the floor in multiple spots. Fixed it with their repair pen, but still quite noticeable. Pergo's website claims: "Designed to withstand scratches, scuffs and pet accidents." We also have pets and had a tinkle accident that we did not see until morning. The flooring had soaked it up and swelled and buckled, etc. We were able to fix with lots of paper towel and a stack of books to weigh it down, but still. We live in Montana, so a flooring product that more or less can't get wet seems a little useless. After all, we live where is snows, rains, etc. Additionally, just 2 days ago I dropped a pair of pliers which chipped a chunk out of the floor. Really???? DANG!!!! That was the last straw. What good is a flooring product that cannot get wet, drop things on, slide things across, etc. Hey Pergo - Life Happens. Next time I plan on putting flooring down in a "controlled environment bubble".... it still wouldn't be Pergo. If you plan on wanting to live on and use the place you plan to put this product, I would have to suggest finding something else to use. This is the most "hands on" maintenance flooring I have ever had. Next project is probably going to be rip this s%@$ out and go with something a little more "life friendly"

1929Spanish I understand TOTALLY about all the endless work with these dear old houses. I look forward to the pictures. An update on my end: While away for a weekend with my best friend, my husband took a heat gun to my sconces! I was shocked that he did that, but so far they look unharmed. Too late now anyway I guess :)They are far from paint free, but the layers that have come off are revealing the original metal in streaky bits. He worked on them for hours and hours apparently. Turned out he wanted to take his new heat gun for a spin. We put a freeze on any further heatgun activity until I can find out more. Still dying to know what Old Houses recommended. Went there to root around and got totally overwhelmed. I think it's just restoration overload! LOL!

You could always get one of the more expensive heaters and see if it lasts longer. There is a reason why the 12 year models say they are 12 year and the 6 year models say they are 6 year. You could also buy and aluminum anode and install it in whatever heater you got if that is what you want. Rheems usually are good so you might just either have bad luck or bad water corroding it. Installing them is not hard but you may find some fun surprises, like the connection to the water heater being corroded to the point of not being able to loosen it. So you may have to do more than just loosen the nuts and electrical and replace the heater, some repair to the water lines might be needed.

If you have a Sherwin Williams close by, take a small piece of your existing trim and a piece of the unfinished you plan to go with. They will custom match a drain for you using the backside of the new board. No stairs here other then one step up on one end of the kitchen. Can't really tell you now it will look. Still waiting for the guys to show up to do transition pieces...4 weeks later. The product seems great but I am less and less impressed with the flooring team here that Home Depot uses. I hope you have better luck with the install. When we checked into the special, it could only be used on certain laminates? D speci

We just installed the highland hickory over the 4th of July, in our master bedroom (400sq feet) ourselves. It took two days, including prepping the floor installing new molding and the transitional pieces. It was surprisingly easy, although I had to make sure my DH adhered to the directions to the T. I love it so far.

We were looking at this ut ended up changing to grouted Mannington Adura. When looking at the Pergo XP I went to the Pergo site. You can search for Pergo certified installers. I called one and he would have been $2 a SF and did quite a few installs for people that bought the HD Pergo.
