Need to find better than Hooker office furniture

I am looking for Office furniture. I like the style of Hooker Westburry collection but know that it is veneer and particle board made in China for $4,700. Will you please recommend a solid wood manufacture. Thank you a lot

If you have a strong preference for that style I would recommend looking for used furniture built over 50 years ago for the desk. Many people are selling well-made old desks on Craigslist and at estate sales, but you probably know this. And the hutch part would be a problem.
If you're willing to look at a more modern style, try Room and Board. They make their furniture in the U.S. It isn't made from solid boards either but it's nicely done. So is McKinnon furniture in Seattle, Scott Jordan in NY (they carry several different manufacturers). There is some solid wood out there but it's rare and you pay a great deal for it these days.

Besides craigslist, keep an eye out on the Stenella Antiques website as well as on ebay with other antique dealers offering high end used furniture.
For what it's worth, my Hooker entertainment base (has drawers and glass doors) with hutch has held up fine these past three years, both in finish and function. No doubt it's from China as well. I agree, though, it's certainly not the quality of the old stuff. Edited to add that I ordered this furniture online from Benjamin Rug & Home. They are a well established furniture store in Secaucus, NJ who also sell online. I live in TX and had no problems although paid quite a bit extra for white glove delivery. The price was still less than a furniture store in my area.

The Custom Shoppe is my selection. You can customize the dimensions, Choose the species of wood (they have cherry but no Mahagony) and have a number of different finishes. Pricepoint may be around $3000 though. Hooker just announced the closing of their last domestic production plant so the chances of you getting Hooker USA made is unlikely. Your $2500 pricepoint is primed for an import product. However If your lookin for USA made your going to pay a little bit more. However you will get what you want and the finish you want it in and the size you want it at. Also Look at Sligh furniture. They have Imported Home office of pretty good quality. I think for 70% of people, buying makes the most sense. Easiest to get a loan, you really don't need a whole heck of a lot of knowledge, your risks are quite low and you know exactly what you're getting. For 30% of people, they want something "new" or "different" and they should build. Of those 30%, 60% should "build" with a spec builder and make choices out of 3-4 things in a catalog. A lot of people struggle when there are too many options. 30% of those people should custom build with a builder. They know what they want or can hire someone to tell them (interior designer). They want something unique or have specific needs to address. They're willing to take on the headache involved in obtaining it, or have the finances to deal with whatever occurs. These people have the time and money available to really invest their time and energy into a custom build. The last 10%, are crazy. They will DIY their house. THIS to me is "building your home". Hiring someone to build is not building a house. My biggest pet peeve. Here, the stress and frustrations are through the roof, the risk is enormous, the banks won't trust you, the financial reality is hell. But you'll save money, have something custom, be proud of what you accomplished. The question for you, is where do you fit in, and what are you willing to live through?

jpmom - I love that file cabinet. The site states that a minimum of two items must be purchased though, and I didn't find a second piece. No tall shelving, as we have a closet with lots of shelving for storage in that room. Yes, the worktable needs to accommodate a chair, likely the same chair as the main desk I showed first. I don't think there will be adequate room for two chairs. We have two windows, connected to one another on one wall in that room, facing the front of the house. The room is carpeted with a monotone neutral, but frieze style carpet. I would love an area rug, but it may not be workable with the carpeting. It is a cold climate up here, and most people have carpet in their homes for warmth. Yes, I would consider an accent wall with wallpaper, however, the walls are somewhat textured. beverly - I have ordered, with good results, from Wayfair before, and I do like those pieces, especially the last desk. I will check that out, for sure. cmarlin - I love great Craigslist finds. I have scoured some, but just haven't found the right thing, I guess. Fun - What a great idea to hide away the printers, etc. We do have a closet in that room, which could work, although I don't think there is an outlet in there. Also, one of the printers (laser) is not wireless, but that could be changed, of course. Great idea. It's possible that could work. FinallyHome - Yes, Chic Coterie is the Hooker line, indeed. The entertainment center you showed first is beautiful. It is too long, though, for the space we have, unfortunately. I did the online search, and I see the items you listed. Thank you! I will look at their dimensions, etc., as well. mdln - I agree about the matching sets, the majority of the time. I really do like the first desk and file drawer I posted most. So if that can work, I would like to use it. Thanks, all. You gave me much to go on.

Your inspiration desk is quite different than the drawing you posted of two L-shaped desks. I've been looking for home office furniture for quite some time and pretty much all of the desks similar to your inspiration photo also lack storage. If you want decorative legs, you probably aren't going to find them with file drawers. Do you have room for a separate credenza where you could store papers and files? FWIT, I pretty much rule out anything that would connect my workspace with my husbands. We already share an office, I don't want to share a desk, too (neither does he). I do like the look of those "shared" desks, though.

You seem to think veneers and particleboard are bad things. Most of the highest end furniture made in the world is veneered, and most with particleboard. Labor is the biggest cost in making casegoods, so coming from china or other areas in the world makes this kind of furniture affordable. You can be assured if made here it would be at the very least twice as expensive but more than likely 4 times more. Because of the glues and drying techniques available today being solid or veneer should not be a consideration except when dealing with moisture or temperature changes...then veneers have an edge.Buy the look and features...and btw...the finish separates lower end casegoods from high end.
