So happy for you judithn...took me back to when my kids were in college in our city, but living on campus. Sounds like a great conversation, and something she needed to hear, and you were able to do it in such a way that she really listened, and matured enough to apologize. You obviously have a great daughter, there, and now you have practice for when your son leaves home...heh heh!! We Moms have to support one another...our kids are in their early 40's, so a lot of this type of thing is behind us, but there are always things to work out. We do have very thoughtful children now...they just weren't so much at your daughter's age!!

I'm high ranked in mcgill. I know very well what i am talking about. ANd Canadian education is not the same as American. Its not hard to get an A/A-/B+ as you put it. THe grading system is Completely different. There are schools in the states that are of the highest order. They are amazing. But not all students attend some of the best schools. And i really hate to give you more light on this subject but many Mcgill applicants with A- have been rejected due to quota and other admission issues. Its a business ladies. Remember. I say its not hard to get in because i see alot of smart students. Alot , many who apply to mcgill have these high marks. Trust me, i know. The only thing wrong with parents paying for college and university is if the child expects it kkny. Dont twist my words ladies. I dont think its wrong for parents to help their children BUT they have to work partime, they have to not expect it because they are the chidl and that is my parent. And i would help my child in university as long as they have a part time job and they're grades are high. I've seen a few cases not only in concordia but in mcgill and two other institutes where the poor parents pay and the kid goofs, while having his cell phone and car paid for by said parents. Its RIDICULOUS! Parents in this society must draw the line and how they raise their kids now adays. These kids will the futur and this entitlement must be changed. Now we have gone off topic and we can discuss schools and politics all we like. In the end, after being part of this forum for almost 10 years, ladies you are beating the same horse from a different angle. What are we talking about? This can be real touchy. Are we talking about what we think of your husband making his children heirs and eliminating your relatives--and vice versa? In my view, it should have something to do with when and how the assets came about. If you want to do a bunch of math, you can make a mathematical kind of decision--each person to have a percent of the total estate depending on how and where the assets came from. Sometimes a person will have received particular kind of favors that could be considered part of an inheritance. Someone I knew left one of their kids a greater inheritance than given to the rest of the siblings because he had a large family. Another person received more because he didn't have the help of a wife (that worked), like the rest of his siblings. When it comes to giving our assets away--I think whatever we do, it should reflect the way we think things should be. People's feelings get hurt over this kind of stuff. Sometimes a son or daughter could be real sorrow, yet there is a nephew that is always there to lend some joy to our heart--what's right? Do you and your husband have assets that were acquired before the marriage? If your husband had assets before he married and those assets diminished because he got married, or if those assets increased because he got married, I believe these are things that deserve consideration. Sometimes a mate will think that because they worked and saved all the money they made, that their savings should be left to whomever they please. This is touchy if this person didn't equally contribute to all the money spent as a couple. What about monies that were acquired because of being an heir to something that could be considered an asset, or because of an insurance policy, or some settlement kind of money. To me, receiving these kind of monies is personal and this too should be taken into consideration if part of a person's estate. I like the idea of getting rid of my assets, etc. while I am still alive and the rest put into a joint-survivorship arrangement. Of course, if you are fairly young--this might not be a good idea. Well, it might not be a good idea for many reasons. I knew someone that had their Will come up missing (stolen) after they died, and the estate had to be administered by the rules of the county probate court. The person's desires were never able to be carried out.

I guess I forgot the "processed part". Processed Potatoes usually consist of just dried potatoes. My brother lives in the Potato growing part of Washington where they Process potatoes...he works in one giant process plant. They are washed peeled, cut and dried. Period. Some producers take those 'fresh, processed and dried' potatoes and add spices or other flavorings to them, or dry them and make them re-hydratable so they become mashed before eaten. Imagine, they don't have to use a chemical spray on a fresh potato to keep it from sprouting or spoiling....just a freshly dug up potato, scrubbed, dried and made edible in its' freshest state. IF YOU add cheese (or a cheese product) YOU are adding a chemically altered product to a product. Do you know WHAT makes your cheese the product you like? Spices are made the same way. Dried onions, dried chives, peppers, salt.....do we know exactly what is in the 'additives' that make our 'scratch' cooking superior to others methods of cooking. Have you 'vetted' your cinnamon, nutmeg, milk (now that 's a great one, how YOUR cow gave you your milk) coffee, tea, chocolate, cocoa....even the paper product it arrives in sometimes contains a preservative. That is the world we live in. There certainly are many hundreds of products out there that are nutritionally questionable...I'm thinking so many beverages, including juices. Cookies and pastries, as well as other sugary stuff. Convenience or pre-prepared items,IMO, should be deemed acceptable for many different reasons. The world we live in is the safest food-wise in centuries. Our country has the highest food to $$$ economy in the world.( I only think I have read this, can't prove it) In other words, we can feed more people with our $ than any where else. That says much about how our farms grow, store, preserve and ship to the whole world our farm grown products. t
