I had a similar situation. My sofa came with a chipped (small) back leg. I noticed it and the delivery guys had these "clay" thing that got molded into the chipped part, once there it would harden and "never" come off---according to them. So fine...I like you figured was willing to let it go at that. BUT ..when they turned the sofa over, the guys left a red-brown stain on the sofa arms--and then he tried to clean it with windex! While cleaning we noticed a seam rip on both arms. He advised to keep the sofa(apparently...this is the way it's done), take pictures and email to customer service. They would exchange the sofa. Well after he left, we did this and emailed. Turns out they (FLS) does not do that, but they would pick up the sofa, fix it and return it..no charge. Of course, now a whole summer has gone by and I am still waiting. I also noticed a rip in the cloth under one of our ottomans..which they said they would fix. (this was noticed ..after I signed the papers).

My advice is to take good digital pictures....inform them of the dent and whatever else you are willing to overlook. REMIND them how much you have spent,return customer etc.... I would work directly with the head customer service person on this. Keep following up. AND mention the fact that you have heard that other furniture companies do not charge...so why should you have to pay.

I am always amazed that we consumers spend so much money on fine furniture. (they follow us like hound dogs when we are shopping) and then when something comes damaged they don't even want to acknowledge you. Customer service has just gone out the door. Sorry have to vent, I was in customer service over 13 years..and it bugs me.

Good luck. But one thing I know...is you have to be persistent.

Keep on persisting and talk to manager. If all else fails, file a complaint with BBB. It actually works. The two major books on NC furniture shopping will recommend FOR or AGAINST companies primarily based on BBB rating. I will definitely think twice before buying at Blacks (and seems like I should worry about FLS as well).

Thanks for the help.. still waiting for delivery of new table.. they havent budged on waiving delivery charge.. but going contact BBB and report it. maybe that will make them come round. Will never purchase from Black's furniture again if they charge us the redelivery charge. Guess the only way to make them 'hear' is to affect their bottom line so spread the word.

Black's is not the problem. You have to actually read the contract you are signing. Other discount furniture stores including FLS have similiar policies. I have purchased from Black's and have received excellent customer service from them. I, too had a damage which I did not see at delivery, but I have no way to prove that the delivery service damaged it. My son could be the culpret so I don't blame Black's for their policy. While it is time consuming to inspect the furniture during delivery, it is worth the time to get the savings. Just read before you sign.

FYI - Black's Furniture owns the delivery service they use!
My MIL recently purchased some furniture from Blacks - had to return living room tables because they were all damaged, she wanted her money back but Black's said she would need to pay the 33% re-stocking fee or wait another 8 weeks for new tables. Sales lady (Pat) won't return her calls and when she threatens with BBB complaint - they say go ahead - other people do and we keep growning every year. Can you believe that! I purchased some furniture from Black's and had good luck, but because of MIL experience Black's lost me as a customer.

Based on what I just read, add me to the people crossing Black's off their list!

oh great... now I find this. I currently have $10,000 worth of furniture on order with Blacks! So far, thier prices have been the best, and the sales person was right on top of things (tried to get quotes from some other NCstores, and they didn't ever return my calls).

Well, if I have learned anything from this thread, it will be to inspect, inspect, inspect! I am sure when my furniture arrives, the delivery guys will not be happy with the time I plan on taking inspecting all my pieces.

I always methodically inspect all my furniture deliveries regardless of where they were purchased. The guys from Boyles said they had never seen anything like what I did. I crawled underneath to look, lifted all cushions, and ran my hands over every square inch of the stuff!

The last Stickley delivery I had, the driver started telling me how well things were packed, could see I was NOT going to stop my detailed inspection, and proceeded to tell me about the damages they do get. No matter how well items are shipped, damage does happen.

I can not believe other people do not do the detailed inspection upon delivery (hey, I'm paying and tipping, the delivery guys can wait a few minutes), but after hearing stories in the forum, I can not help but wonder whether I am not the exception rather then the rule?

lets start with the table being level/unlevel.does it have adjustable leveling glides? if so were they installed or if not were you informed of them? if it dosent have leveling glides,which most lowere end to lower middle usually dosent you may need to put a shim under the legs/platform to level it out,i run a delivery dept and hear from customers that there floor is perfectly level,not true if our guys move the furniture in diffrent places it should be unlevel everywhere thus proving floors are naturally unlevel not to say that on occasion a table/chair will be unlevel and need to be adjusted/replaced. sounds like the store your dealing with is not very friendly.we try to please all of our customers as quickly and promptly as possible and give customers 3 days after delivery to report anything not noted on there delivery ticket. our drivers will wait 10 minutes after delivery for a customer to inspect there purchase beyond that they have to leave and will.we work our best to accomadate customers i know alot of furniture companies dont.1 thing we run into alot is customers wanting our guys to decorate there house ,there there to deliver the furniture where you want it unpack and set up.our guys wont lift your tv move your sheets move kids toys or anything else,and most people dont expect them too.well sorry for rambling glad to find this forum and look forward to using it hope your problems are corrected quickly
