How do I remove remnant carpet marks left on hardwood floor

I have 2/3" oak wood flooring in the kitchen of my newly constructed home. I, stupidly, used a carpet remnant under my dining table with no underlayment for about 1 1/2 yrs. Recently, I bought a new area rug to replace the remnant and to my dismay, the grid marks of the underside of the carpet remnant were visible on my wood. I tried to gently remove a small area and even used Goo Gone (probably much like the Goof Off product). The marks looked as though they had lifted, but when it dried and/or evaporated, the grid marks were still there. My floor has a glossy finish and does not appear to be "indented" with the marks. Do you have any advice as to how to remove these horrible marks that cover about a 4 x 6 section of my floor? Thank you.
