Brick or pavers over concrete slab

I have an enclosed sunroom with a concrete slab floor. I want to lay either pavers or brick over the slab. We live in Cleveland where it gets very cold. What material would you recommend? Is this a do it yourself project or one best left to the experts?

i thought about that but the concrete has glue all over it from old indoor outdoor carpeting. i got a lot of it off but it will never be stainable.

I'm planning on mortaring pavers over my existing sidewalk. I recently raised and leveled all of the slabs as the entire sidewalk was channeling water to the house. I'm wondering if it would be advisable to fasten each slab end together with some kind of metal straps before laying down the mortar? I'm hoping if the sidewalk sections move they would at least move together.

Hi..I own www.tileofluxury.com . the tiles you have are too thin to drive over..you need at least 1.5 inch thick tiles and then put in mortar over concrete. Here is a link that might be useful: tile of luxury

Sounds like it will be beautiful however spendy it may ultimatly be. How thick are the pavers? And you want to drive over this? We are also in Pa and I would be VERY leary about doing this. I know someone in eastern PA who did one inch thick slate pavers in concrete on their patio which was concrete. They are cracking- been in about five years. I have another friend who has a paver cobblestone driveway set in sand with a gravel base. This has been in about 15-18 years. Still looks good. If he's done this before and its held up - have him guarentee yours and go for it. Would be completely intallation technique sensitive.

I did something similar with my driveway several years ago. It was a very solid base, just had sunk over time till it was pitched towards the house. Would have been a HUGE pain to remove. Just graded it level with mortar and laid pavers over that. It was just a bunch of bags of Type S mortar mix and play sand.. nothing special. I've been happy with the performance through several freezing winters, so yeah - you're on the right track. The expensive part will be the pavers, bricks, or stone. Mortar mix and sand are cheap. Best way to save money on a job that size is to watch Craigslist etc in your area and get some used bricks or pavers to use. You really shouldn't pave with wall bricks but you can get away with them for a few years; if you end up using non-pavement-rated bricks I would definitely use a sand bed so you can replace them later. Again, I wouldn't do that unless you happen to find a bunch of free bricks from someone tearing down a wall..

Very nice Bill .
Don't worry about the glue if that is what you want . they will bead blast the concrete first .
