This isn't about h-birds, and it's more about buzzers than hummers, but it seems like a reasonable follow up anyway. There's a narrow path along one of my borders, between a mixed bed and a small pool - about 25' long and only 3' wide (the path; the mixed bed is about 10' deep) and for over a month now the racket from the mixed bed has been astounding. This border is backed by old spruce trees and has a long row of evergreen euonymous (not one of the invasives, this is 'Manhattan' or a similar large-leaved variety) between the trees and a row of tree peonies, mountain laurel and azaleas, underplanted with gingers, geraniums, and various other perennials. Closer inspection revealed that the racket was coming from the euonymous, which has been blooming for weeks. After an even closer look, I realized that the buzzers were not bees at all, but flies. I can't detect any odor from these flowers, but there must be one, and it must not be anything that would appeal to people. Are there other plants that attract flies by the millions? These bugs (or are they insects?) don't seem to congregate anywhere else in the yard, and don't seem to be doing any harm. And, they don't scare anyone the way the bees that are swarming the clethra do.

I have a problem with my liftmaster 1/2 hp. My house was built in 2005 but im not sure what year the opener is, but my remotes do not work and my hard wire button doesnt work but is blinking. My sensors that detect objects in the way still blinks if i put my leg or something in the way but light bulb on the lifter itself doesnt work and it is a good bulb. and i plugged other objects like a fan or charger or something in that outlet on the ceiling that the lifter is plugged in at and it works. when i unplug the lifter the hard wire button light goes out and when i plug it back up it continues to blink still. What do i need to do?

Last summer my garage door just decided to start closing only half way and then stopped. Every time I opened it or closed it, it would stop in a different position. I got the maunal out and went through the steps repeatedly to try to adjust the up and down travel. I tried to adjust the tension. It was very weird. Then I noticed a trouble light blinking on the side of the unit. I searched for trouble light code information and found that it was blinking a code that did not exist. I finally thought that this must be some computer glitch and did what I would do if my computer started acting irratic. REBOOT. I tried this with the garage door by unplugging it and plugging it back in. It didn't work the first time until I realized this unit has a 12v battery to operate the door openener during a power outage. So I took out the battery and unplugged the opener. Then I put the battery back in and plugged the door opener back in. The blinking code light was no longer blinking. I was able to reset the travel stops and the tension. It has functioned perfectly for 9 months. However, today while I was standing in my front yard talking with neighbors, my garage door just opened by itself. Nobody was in my house. Nobody was near my garage door remote. My wife's car was miles away.

I have a Craftsman (date:) 6/97 (model:) 139.53677SRT1. There was no owner's manual for that model no. so I downloaded one close to it. The problem is that when I try to open or close the door, whether from the house control unit or the remote, all that happens is that the motor hums. Prior problem: Starting about 2 months ago, the door would get down to about 2 ft from the ground and stop. I could make it act right if I violently shook the door when it stopped. Prior to that, whenever the door would go down, it would make ungodly screeching noises, I assume in the rollers, which I have now oiled. After several sessions of my shaking the door to get it to close, the screeching stopped and all was well. But now I have the no-open, no-close humming problem. I've checked the trolley to see if it hits the bolt, and it doesn't. It latches about 3" before the bolt. I've oiled the rollers and tested the balance. I still only get humming. The control isn't on lockout. It seems to me that humming means the sprocket isn't turning, which makes me worry that I'm going to have to get a whole new g*d* motor. Also I can't figure out how to get to the sprocket. I can see that the chain is a little loose when the door is closed (and open), so I guess I'll try to tighten that a little. Otherwise, what could be causing this?
