I would recommend Prescriptives Traceless, but that has been discontinued as well. Fortunately, I had a head's up far enough in advance to stock up on it a bit, but at some point I will need to find another myself. ugh.

A friend started selling Avon, so I felt I had to buy something so I bought the Avon Beyond Color, skin smoothing cream foundation.

And I HATE to wear foundation. lol.

I'm on my second container now!

It comes in many colors but I use "Nude" which is like "Natural."

It doesn't make your skin shiny, it's not heavy, and it hides all blemishes.

It actually makes my skin look dewey, not oily or shiny.

You don't wear a powder with this either, except for blush.

And it's only 12 bucks!

Have you tried any variety of mineral make-up? My skin tends to lean more to the dry side, but I really like the mineral make-up.

I HATE the feel of foundation and do not care for cremes or lotion type foundation. Or the heavy cakey powder ones. The mineral foundations seem light - I don't look like I'm wearing make-up and I don't feel like I'm wearing it either.

I'm lucky in that I have good skin, especially for my age and have never had blemishes, etc. so I don't need alot of coverage. I'm thinking from your pictures (and your age) you probably don't either. I would strongly suggest you try some of the mineral products. I order mine, but I know there are brands sold in stores also.

I got a free sample of Bobbi Brown Moisturizing (?) Cream Compact foundation. Didn't think I'd end up liking/using it. Though the samples were available in different shades, it was not available in the lightest one, which I'd assumed I'd need. I got it in the next lightest shade though, which turned out to be a perfect match color-wise. Also, I have oily skin (in the T-zone), so tend to stay away from anything with "moisturizing" in the name. I've been using Stila Illuminating Powder Foundation for a number of years now, and couldn't imagine using anything "heavier" or with more coverage, but free is free!

I was very pleasantly surprised. I apply it with a BB makeup brush (travel sized--another freebie I'd gotten years ago, but had never used), and use very, very little of it on the brush. It blends in well, is very lightweight (esp since I use so little), yet evens out skin nicely. I dust over it with some sheer powder foundation and/or translucent setting powder just to mattify it a bit (and absorb any skin oils).

I really like it. I tried the oil-free version in the store (no samples) and it didn't look nearly as nice (color match, blending, skin itself--all looked blah). The Moisturizing version seems to hold up very well, and I actually look less shiny throughout the day than when I used the powder foundationn alone. I apply Smashbox's Photo Finish Primer (the Light version) before applying any make-up, which I find helps, too.

Consider going with a wet/dry powder. Lancome Dual Finish comes in a compact and can be applied as a powder or using a wet sponge. You can adjust the coverage with the wet sponge from a very light finish to a heavier one. It feels light on the skin either way and give a flawless complexion. It's been around forever and I first started using it in high school. Every time I try one of those liquid foundations I always hate them, and stick with Dual Finish.

I'm sitting here trying to think what brands the department stores around home carry. Off the top of my head besides Clinique I think they have Estee Lauder and Lancome. I might have to head to a different mall.

I don't know if this qualifies for mineral makeup or not I ordered Sheer Cover once. It looked wonderful on tv but I didn't like it. I'm sure there are much better ones out there. This seemed to disappear after a few hours. When I went to cancel the automatic shipments they said I should try/order the powder that seals the foundation. I explained they should've sent that along with the samples. :)

Hmm.. even with the Avon I don't want to try ordering anything I haven't seen in person. I think my sister knows someone that sells it so I might give it a try sometime.

Thanks for listening to my rant/whine. I know in the grand scheme of life foundation is a very small thing but it's one of the more important beauty staples in my life, lol.

Have you tried "tinted moisturizer"? That's really light. Right now I'm using Almay's PURE BLENDS and I like it.
Also, check out the makeup counter at Whole Foods. Maybe there's a brand there you'll like. You can always return it if it doesn't work out for you.

Cat mom - I have blush and eye shadow of Bobbi Brown and love it. I also like stuff I've tried of Smashbox and M.A.C but none of those places are near me so I've never tried to order foundation or concealer. :(

Flyingflower - I never tried a tinted moisturizer. I always just figured they were so light it would disappear in an hour or so. I might give that a try too. Sadly, there's not a Whole Foods near me either.

I'm happy to report it wasn't as big of a project as I imagined.

We headed to the Lancome counter. I found the oil control foundation and the first sample I picked up was a perfect color match to my old foundation (took bottle along). The girl tried two different ones on my face to check and then did my whole face in the correct one. Bought it. :) I was all prepared to try a whole bunch of different brands and types but once I found the color and oil free....I didn't see the point.

It's called Fresh Wear. She says it's new and different than their other oil control foundation. It was $32 so I was glad to keep it in the same price range.

It feels light weight. She did glop way too much moisturizer and foundation on my face yesterday but I figured it would be ok when I applied it. Today my face still looks pretty good hours later so that's a plus.

I'll give it a couple of days. I was most worried about the color and that prooved to be easy.
