Comments (8)I'll bet they were un finished furniture of maybe 20 25 years ago.... There was a lot of that sort of stuff....with the rush seats. If they had been old they would have has split hickory....which is why I said the seats were not old. Also if they were old the construction would have the back slpats tenoned into the rails....and there would be wear on the top back splat....and likely the rear legs would be shorter than the front from shoving back from a table....and the seat would be about an inch lower. Worth....depending on where you are....$35 a chair?...Maybe not that much. Linda C...See MoreHow old is your sofa?
Comments (51)I have a Century English arm sofa in a chenille type fabric that is about 15 years old. I bought it from a doctor who was never home to sit on it about 5 years ago. It seemed in perfect condition. We sit on it daily for hours. It is no longer comfortable. I think the foam has worn out or something. When I called my Century dealer to get replacement cushions the price was $1300 to replace 2 spring down seat cushions on an 84 inch sofa. About $800 to replace with foam. I kept wondering what will go next? For that price I could move on to a new sofa, at least a hefty down payment. I ended up buying a MSRP $4500 small Stickley sofa on clearance for $1600 delivered. It is 8-way hand tied, spring down cushions, and Crypton. It has a small scale that fits my odd rooms. I am going to order a sheet of firm (2.8?) foam from the internet for the old Century for about $125 from the internet. It is a 6 inch thick sheet. I will trace and saw out my own replacement cushions and see if it doesn’t buy me another 5 years with it. At the very least it should be better than this original foam. The Century will be moved to the den as a home office sofa. I am currently planning a whole living room redo. This will prob take some time as I’m very slow and budget minded and DIY the things I can. I will get a new sofa I think, the Stickley will move to the office, and the Century will move to someone else’s home if it’s still alive at that point. Prior to this we had a leather Chateau D’Ax or something like that. Cheap from Macy’s. Pirelli webbing. Not well made. But! It held up to a family and 2 dogs and a cat for 10 solid years, another 5 not as solid. The leather ripped down the center of the middle seat and it got hauled away by junk removal. Junk removal cost me $125 on a groupon. Good times....See MoreWould Love to Identify My (new to me) Old Chairs
Comments (14)Thank you for all the replies thusfar. Celticmoon, I can't believe you had/have 20 of them on wheels! Katy--b, you're so right about the comfortable seat. The spindles in the back are bowed (you can see that better in the link that shows the wheeled version)which offers great lumbar support, as well. I think the curved arms and bowed back give them a bit of a modern look, despite the fact that they are so hefty. To me, they make great pieces for my transitional decor at home, but I can also see them in our lakehouse. The ones I have are in great shape. I don't think they need to be refinished, but would love to know the best products to use to clean them and give them a nice glow. I am not sure what type of wood they are, but I'm quite certain they are not a soft wood, like pine....See MoreDoes my art make me look old?
Comments (51)Thank you all! I have made a few changes to the room, based on your suggestions. Ravencajun: I agree that ideally the darker framed boats/sunset picture will look better over the fireplace. But right now it's hiding a very bad bit of drywall patching! Also I'm still waiting for the perfect piece for above the mantle. I almost won something on eBay that would have been perfect, but it got away. The mirror doesn't bother me too much so I'm going to just keep waiting till I find something I love. ingrid: thanks for the suggestion about the rug. I did switch it and liked it better your way. Thank you! I'm currently trying out a different rug that I think most people would hate, but I think it grounds the room nicely. I'll probably go back and forth between the blue striped one and this one. justerrilynn: I love that bird!! Do you know where it's from? I took all your (as well as others) advice and changed the coffee table decor. I will keep looking for a couple more interesting pieces. olychic and lascatx: Thank you! I hope the close up of the coffee table, gives you a clearer picture. Do you think the base is still too white? Idaclaire: I did move the padded bench to a less obtrusive spot. Thank you! I'd like to keep it in the room because it makes cleaning a cinch! Just hide everything in it!! Lol. pkpk23 and nursetammie thank you ressurecting this thread. I kept meaning to updated you all on the changes I made. I know many of you did not like the glass pieces on the lower mantle shelf but they are handmade and special to me. In real life, they catch the light very prettily. I also added my 2 year old's latest masterpiece to the mantle, cause I'm terribly proud! :) Please let me know what you think!! I may not take all your suggestions, but I truly appreciate the discerning eyes! Thank you!!...See MoreRelated Professionals
