steam cleaning laminate floors

I just bought a Bissell steam mop. It is safe to use on laminate flooring or will it buckle? I have read so much conflicting information.

Why? A damp mop works.

From my understanding, you are to only clean laminate with a damp mop like a swiffer or a shammie thingy. Water will damage a laminate floor. I have used a scrubbruch with water in 1x1 area to clean dirt out of light maple floor but I wiped up water immediatly. Plus I did not care because I was ripping up the floor anyway as it was buckling from prior owners bad install. But again, very damp mop is all I have ever heard of being safe.

Hmph, I guess I shouldn't have said anything about the haan. The first one I got failed after about two days of use and was replaced. I've had the replacement about four months with no problems and I've faithfully followed all their instructions and used the little cleaning packet as directed, but today the new one started dribbling hot water instead of steam. So I guess I would say to get a steam mop, but not a haan.

I too am frustrated with trying to get clean, streak-free laminate floors. We decided to purchase the cheapest by the square foot laminate that has quite the shine to it. I tried microfiber mops, water, vinegar. I made the mistake of initially trying to clean them with Mop 'N Glo. I recently purchased a Shark steam mop at the recommendation of a coworker and while the pad shows dirt is being picked up, my floors are left streaky, even only using the recommended distilled water. I'm at my wits end here trying to get the streaks off these floors. I guess Bona is next on my list to try. I'm getting quite a collection of different mops and cleaners but I'd like to find just one that actually works!

I have a pro model,came with all kinds of attachments. I clean everything with it. works wonders. It was about $600 if I remember correctly. The sharps are junk. So is the Haan, if you want to do anything other than floors. I cleaned my stove top and and it is a gas and you would not believe what it got out of my gas jets and the flame holder. looks good as new.

Some floor steam cleaners, like the shark, have a "hardwood" setting, which barely moistens the cleaning pads. I haven't tried it, but I have hears that it works well for things that you would usually use a damp rag for - spills and muddy tracks.

If you use steam on your laminate you will ruin it and void any warranty you have on the flooring. They sell cleaners specifically for laminte floors that you spray on and mop off with a shammie or towel. See the manufacturer's recommendations for removing grimier dirt.

You will read conflicting information because the people who sell these steam cleaners will tell you they are safe. If you ask a flooring professional, they will tell you never to use a steam cleaner on hardwood or laminate.

It is NOT recommended to use a steam cleaner on laminate flooring. Water and laminate do not mix, neither does water and hardwood. Ask these steam cleaning manufacturers if they will replace your floors when they get damaged! ciciliotandson
