So here's my update on the Lee sleep sofa, after almost 2 years. For the sleep part of the sleep sofa, I love the air dream mattress. To me, it really is a huge improvement over any other sleep sofa experiences I've had. My husband and I had to sleep on it for more than a week when we had our upstairs floors refinished, and it worked out fine. Note that I'm not saying "great"....I still prefer my bed....but it was fine. I never felt a bar because of the air mattress. There is still a tendency for 2 adults to roll toward the center a little bit(depending on how firmly you blow up the mattress). For the sofa part, it is also fine, but not as good a "sit" as a regular sofa. There is less spring, of course. I expected this, so I am okay with it. I'm thinking that the upgraded innerspring seat cushions probably helped some, but it have no direct comparison. I think the Lee quality is great, and I will buy Lee again. Good luck!

The thing with a sleeper is no matter what type of spring unit is used, it is not used when you are installing a sleeper mechanism. I am sure that Basset uses a plywood frame and a 5/4 hardwood frame would be better, but you will find that most manufacturers do use plywood frames.You might want to look at what type of mechanism they use, what cushions they use, do they have an option for example of a spring down cushion which would be good to use in a sleep sofa as when you sit on a sleep sofa you are essentially sitting on a folded up mattress which is a very firm surface. You might also want to look at their mattress and see if there are any options. Keep in mind that sleep sofas do not sit as well as sofas. However if you need a sleep sofa and you are happy with the fabric and the tailoring than I think Basset would be as good as most in the industry.

We had a futon for the overnight friends. When not in use you can put them in a black trash bag, suck out the air with the vacuum and put them in the garage.(the futon--not the friends-although I have been tempted at times)Japanese families roll them up I believe. The Tylosand at Ikea looks serviceable, I was looking at them Saturday. My kids thought most of the sofa sleepers were like boot camp and preferred the futon on the floor.

A trundle bed might work... I am getting one for DD's room, but I guess I thought trundle beds were more for younger kids or girls. Not sure why I have that impression. I should have explained better -- when we have company, DS #1 will give up his room (biggest bedroom) for guests, and he will sleep in DS #2's room. The boys are 17 and 14 so it's not like they want to sleep near each other, so I thought something more "across the room" would be better than a trundle. I don't think we would have space for a full size futon, but I didn't know there was such a thing as a futon chair -- I'll have to look for that. We also have a few inflatable beds around the house but I'm thinking I'd like something a little more substantial for this situation.
