Leather color fading?

Recently bought a Lane recliner and within a month both armrest ends had more than faded(looked tan instead of red) and also on the headrest. Lane replaced the chair and I now keep my hands off the armrests, but my head area is starting to fade. Seems a shame to have to put a towel over the headrest. My dealer is convinced that I am caustic and she may be right; or Lane buys cheap leather which is what my wife thinks. Anyone else out there that is absorbing the dye?

Never had this problem but you might try talking to a leather expert. Wether it be in furniture, cleaners, or somone like Wilson's leather clothing stores.

My opinion is the leather itself is the problem. Oil from your hair would make the leather darker, not lighter. You are not caustic and you should be able to enjoy your furniture and use it appropriately - you shouldn't have to avoid the arm rests and leave a towel on the back. You should not be absorbing the dye = they have a problem with their leather processing.

I have 15 yo leather couches that we lived on for years with teenagers, pets, food spills etc. in our game room. Our current family couches are leather too - cheap, temporary couches from Ikea that still look new 8 years later. None of my leather furniture has changed color or shown wear on the back, arm rests or anywhere else.

Sorry your having this problem and I hope you can get it resolved quickly.

If it is easily reached, you might try wiping it several times with a light bleach mixture. This worked for my grandfathers siding when we had the windows replaced and the original color was exposed once they were finished. I've used leather dye on our large leather sectional to cover cat scratches that had ripped through the leather. It worked well, and the repaired areas are not visible in shading or appearance, fortunately. I don't know, however, whether this application would work as well on larger, discolored areas, because of natural fading or discoloring of the original finish. Our couch is ivory colored, and the product I found matched it perfectly. I've pasted the link of the product I used.
