I purchased a Louis Phillippe bedroom set from National Mt. Airy about 10 years ago. Just before delivery of the furniture, I was told that they were being bought out by Bassett. The sales person I was working with told me that Bassett was not nearly as good quality as National Mt. Airy and that their customer service was lacking. (BTW, I would only rate National Mt. Airy as mid-level to begin with). Also - I agree with belle_va in that they only sell direct from their own stores and not through NC - sames as say Ethan Allen. About two or three years ago, I visited a Bassett Direct store to see if they had a sleigh bed similar to my National Mt. Airy. I have a queen and was considering changing to a King. When I compared their furniture to NMA, I agree, it didn't even come close in quality and construction.

The thing with a sleeper is no matter what type of spring unit is used, it is not used when you are installing a sleeper mechanism. I am sure that Basset uses a plywood frame and a 5/4 hardwood frame would be better, but you will find that most manufacturers do use plywood frames.You might want to look at what type of mechanism they use, what cushions they use, do they have an option for example of a spring down cushion which would be good to use in a sleep sofa as when you sit on a sleep sofa you are essentially sitting on a folded up mattress which is a very firm surface. You might also want to look at their mattress and see if there are any options. Keep in mind that sleep sofas do not sit as well as sofas. However if you need a sleep sofa and you are happy with the fabric and the tailoring than I think Basset would be as good as most in the industry.

I recently purchased an end table and cocktail table for my family room from bassett. I also purchased an Indurance table for my nook. I am pleased with the quality of the furniture. I have received numerous compliments on all pieces. I believe I will have all pieces for many years. I was concerned about the quality prior to delivery because one of my neighbors had forewarned me to check any wood furniture I had delivered from bassett for chipping. I have not had any problems. I have ethan allen bedroom sets for my son's rooms. I am also pleased with the quality.

I just ordered two Alexandria love seats, two Madeleine chairs, ottomans and bunching tables from Bassett. The loveseats were very comfortable, didn't sag, etc. Two saleswomen spent quite a bit of time with me and were most helpful in coordinating fabrics. I'm very happy with my purchases.
