Opinions of BR111

I'm considering using BR111 hardwood flooring in my condo.

Haven't heard of this company.

Anyone have any opinions to share?

BR-111 is a very reputable hardwood flooring manufacturer from Brazil.

We have had BR-111 3/4" Brazilian Teak for about 3 years and we are very happy with it. It is a beautiful floor and we get a lot of compliments on it. We installed it in a family room that gets a fair amount of use, including food spills, and it still looks great. I try to remember that it is extremely hard and don't baby it too much. I did scratch it though with a staple on the bottom of a chair. My only problem it that I now need to install it in the rest of the main floor and at $8.50 or more right now, 1000+ sq. ft. is a small fortune. :(

I also would like feedback on these three brands with their Amendoim species engineered hardwood flooring or the Lyptus flooring which is similar but in person it was lighter when I brought samples home. I am thinking I like planks in my home no more than 4.5" wide with 3.25" to 4" looking the best due to the layout of my furniture. I had my heart set on Brazilian Cherry floors but I am just so afraid of how dark they can become since I like to work in a bright office. I know I would love the Brazilian Cherry in my family room since that room needs color but in my home office I am so afraid it will be so much ligher on one side of the room that gets none of the windows light since it is blocked by a half of a wall high and long.

This just happened this past year 2013-current. We purchased expensive custom made wide plank engineered wood and paid over $12 sq ft from the current BR-111 (direct). At first, they tried to blame the problems on the wood being exotic, but after sending a video of the cracking that occurred on 100 % of the floor, they agreed it was a manufacturer defect and promised a full refund. This was back in January. It's now May and no refund. Very sad that the owner(s) of this company value money more than integrity. The company in my opinion is on it's way to bankruptcy. In life, I have witnessed what goes around comes around, and the individuals who have made the decision to withhold money will pay this money out one way or another. Perhaps not to myself, or yourself, but rest be assured that any time dishonest money is earned, it washes out like water. It seems heartless that these people with families of their own (who happen to post all their wonderful Facebook events and news) do not have compassion on the customers who like them, only want the best for their families. We were planning on donating the refund to charity if we received it. Both my husband and I both agreed it would be right to do, so now they have not stolen money from a customer, they have stolen it from those who could have used it much more than us. I am assuming you are talking about the 6-1/4" wide X 5/16" engineered product. Am I correct....as far as color goes Amendoim has that light gold to pinkish tint and brazilian cherry is going to be a medium red to medium brownish-red color. Both will darken over time since they are photo sensitive species. I think the Brazilian cherry will give you more of a regal look, but that is my opinion. Hope these comments help

I can't say for sure that all brands of Santos Mahogany are darker, but the ones I was looking at sure seemed to be that way. The ones that were in my price range also seemed to lean more towards the brown spectrum of things (not saying all of them do this -- just the ones that I could afford at the time), as I recall, and I really wanted something that was more red. Regarding darkening -- all I can tell you is my experience with it. As an example, we had some storage cabinets that stood on each side of our TV to hold DVDs and video tapes. The bases on them were probably 2' x 2'. We got rid of them at some point, and of course, the floor underneath them was substantially lighter than everywhere else. As time has passed, the one square patch that is closest to the window has darkened to match the rest of the floor just fine. The other patch, that is on the other side of the TV has darkened much more slowly, and is still slightly noticeable -- this is 100% due to the fact that the TV and the stand that it rests on are blocking the sunlight from shining directly on that part of the floor. I'd imagine that if you have a light spot that you want to darken quickly, just make sure it gets a lot of direct sunlight, and it will catch up pretty fast. I share your concerns about the splotchiness of the floor -- some day when I sell my house, there's going to be large light squares/rectangles wherever my rugs or furniture are. But my limited experience so far has shown that the light splotches do catch up eventually, usually within 2 - 6 months depending on the amount of sun, so I'm just going to have to tell the potential buyer to deal... My one piece of advice for people is this (and I've probably already mentioned this in a couple of threads): when you install the floor (and this is a lot easier if you're doing the installation yourself, room by room), is to wait to put any furniture in for a couple of weeks, and open the room to as much sunlight as possible. We found our floors did the most noticeable darkening in the first few weeks (seriously -- we accidentally left the blue installation tape on some wood -- came back the next day and removed the tape, and the wood had already darkened so much in just one day that you could clearly see the tape outlines). The one room that we (accidentally) did this two week "seasoning" period in has a much less noticeable shading difference in the places where the furniture rests. If we move our bed, or our dressers, or bookcases (you can guess which room it is now!), you can hardly see any light spots at all where they used to be.

Which BR-111 floor are you considering? I've been looking at the Triangulo Engineered Amendoim.

Luvmyguys, look at the 5/16th BR-11 Amendoim Vs. Tauari and you will see they are not the same species and Amendoim BR-111 says is 1920 Janka Rating while Tauari BR-111's old website said was 1460 Janka Rating. BR-111's Amendoim seems to have that red tint with more color variation and some knots and is pretty while Tauari is also pretty and a very modern look that is a tannish color with not so much color variation.

I am mentioning this from the question you had on the other post.

I am still confused what is really Brazilian Oak Vs. Tauari Vs. Amendoim species of hardwood flooring.

Also the thinner the veneer is (5/16th is too thin for me... I like the Triangulo's 3 MM real sawn wood veneer), the less the species's hardness comes into play and it is more the finish that is important I think from what I have been seeing and reading.

I love both Brazilian Cherry and the Amendoim Triangulo's hardwood flooring from BR-111 since I love their Sawn cut and their finish is very nice with a touch of shine but not too shiny.

Sorry, I meant BR-111 ... I didn't get much sleep last night since I was up past midnight with a client and then it took me so long to wind down. I am going to go to bed at a reasonable hour tonight but just unwinding by reading posts to get my mind off of my work.

I love the BR-111 brand and feel they have a nice product and I like how the pieces fit so nicely together in their Triangulo Engineered Wood Flooring.

I have heard good things about BR111. Lynn mentions a good point about BR111 being sawn cut, which is supposed to be better than peeled or rotary cut. We considered their Amendoim (engineered), but it may be a little too dark for us. A flooring salesperson at a local store told me that Amendoim is also known as Brazilian Oak. I don't know if that's exactly correct or just a broad statement.
The darker sample pictured below is the BR111 Amendoim. The other samples are Lauzon's red oak natural and hickory natural. In my opinion, the BR111 sample had more of a glossy shine/finish compared to more of a matte shine with the Lauzon.

Thank you Laurie for letting us know that the Lauzon has more of a matt finish than the BR-111 samples you looked at. I just know at the store BR-111 was less glossy than the Bruce semi-gloss floors and the Mirage Semi-gloss floors but more glossy than the floors that had a matt finish..

I love the red oak Lauzon sample which also is a sawn cut and that is why it is so beautiful.

Please do take a look at BR-111 reviews on the BBB website as well as just do a general BR-111 search online for reviews. This company does not stand by their product. We bought defective hardwood from this company, were promised a refund, and were never issued the refund. The company will offer every excuse under the sun to get you to buy their product but once you have even the slightest problem with the sale, they will not help you. Please buyers beware.

BR-111 became BR-111 Direct and no longer buys from their suppliers that made a good name for them. See the post below that I have copied and pasted the law suit and discussed my bad experiences also. BR-111 is no longer in existence. The new company they formed just has a similar name and sells direct to the public.
