Bedroom furniture/Amish furniture

We are in the process of beginning our search for some dressers/chest of drawers/door chests for our 2 daughters who are 8 and 10. They are not too hard on furniture and need some new ones with more space. We live in North Carolina (Charlotte area)and a couple of years ago went to Hickory for another furniture search and ran across an Amish store. We absolutely fell in love with the quality of that furniture. We bought a bench made out of 100 yr old reclaimed barn wood and absolutely love it. We do see that the furniture there is quite expensive but love the thought of solid wood furniture that is sturdy enough to withstand the test of time and use actually be taken by our daughters to their own homes when they are grown.

My question is, does anyone have any recommendations for quality wood furniture in the NC area (even Charlotte area would be nice, but could travel to Hickory/High Point)that would not break the bank? We looked at Ethan Allen and I found a door chest that seemed perfect and of course they are not cheap either. But I have also seen unfavorable reviews about them. Any comments?

Anyone ordered Amish furniture online?

Hi, hdmg! We live in Wisconsin where there is a huge Amish population. However, the "Amish" furniture stores in our area are very dodgy -- the furniture might be Amish-made, but it's just kit furniture that's put together by Amish and it's sold at the stores owned by non-Amish. Be sure to do some research before you buy to make sure what you're getting is truly designed and built by the Amish and not just cheaper stuff sold under their trusted name by the unscrupulous to make a buck.

Poplar is a fairly soft wood. Not as soft as pine, but certainly softer than other hardwoods. So it tends to dent, ding and scratch easier than, say, oak, cherry, or maple. Also, poplar WILL turn from the light pale and green of freshly milled poplar to a slightly darker...brown, I guess. So, if the piece was just recently built, it will turn color with time. Unless it's painted, of course.

I would be reluctant to order also. I'm about 40 miles outside the largest Amish community. Most Amish do not have websites, and most do not have telephones, although some do. If you could make a trip to Amish land, I'd suggest you do. I think you may find you will have to arrange for shipment of items or pickup the items. Many do not have delivery. We bought some fantastic furniture for the deck, and a really nice set of mattresses at really good prices. We did have to arrange our own delivery. My brother bought some really nice custom made to his order bedroom furniture, at an unbelievable price. He too had to arrange his own delivery. Since I have no idea where you are located, it may or may not be a great idea to plan a trip or vacation to Amish land. Here's a link to Holmes County business directory. You may want to start saving inspiration rooms you love; it will really help if you have a direction. I would purchase the rug fist vs bedding and cushions so you have a style to build on. Be sure to use various colors, patterns and textures so it feels more interesting The headboard is high and I think art above each night stand would be more complimentary and use small brass lamps for a modern look. You could add the sign on another wall If you need a bedskirt, a more tailored style would feel more modern Dresser and tv wall - mirror, plant, chair, art, baskets
