Good Microfiber and/or Motion Sofa? Southern Motion?

I'm looking for a very comfortable microfiber sofa for a media room in the basement for my two teens and their friends to hang out on. I think I'd like motion furniture, but it doesn't have to be. Obviously, I don't want to buy a top-of-the-line sofa, but neither do I want something that will fall apart or look like junk in a short while. Does anyone have any brand recommendations? There are so many out there in the $600-$800 range whose names I've never heard of. I'm willing to spend more if that's what it takes to get something of quality, but I don't want to spend more than I have to because I have a lot of other furniture to buy also. I saw one made by Southern Motion, and the salesman (of course) tried to tell me it was better constructed than others. Has anyone ever heard of it?

I have a 4-year old sofa from Mitchell Gold covered in a gray-beige microfiber. It's "very" comfortable, has worn fairly well and cost about $1,200. You can probably find one for less if you hit Crate and Barrel or Pottery Barn (they both sell MG sofas) when they clearance out their floor models. Also I've seen some good deals at the PB outlet on upholstered furniture.

Check out the frame and spring warranty for any piece in the $600-$700 price range. Generally speaking, the longer the warranty the better the construction. It might be possible to find well-made sofas in this price range, but definitely examine the mechanicals (turn over and take dust cover off) before you buy. Look for weak connections between springs and frame, weak or non-reinforced wood joints, and the quality of the reclining lever. Also look at the mechanicals of sofas in the $1200 price range (Flexsteel, Mitchell, etc.) and judge for yourself if it is worth the price difference. Teens will test the mechanical limits of any furniture! This could be a case where good used furniture at 50% off retail would suffice if it gets really abused and then will be replaced down the road.

OK, I received my cloths in the mail yesterday, and I am now a believer. We did my back door, front door (full-length glass), window in the kitchen, and double hung window (including all the screens) in my dining area, very quickly with absolutely NO streaks. Also my glass covered dining table. We just had a water-dampened micro cloth and the dry glass cloth. The longest part of the cleaning was folding out the double-hung windows, and the front door windows and putting them back. How can this be? I don't know, and I don't care as long as I can clean my house this quickly! My neighbor, who was a HUGE skeptic came over and helped me. Then she took two of the cloths to her house. She came back less than 1/2 hour later saying, "Where do I get these?" She claims that she went home and cleaned her front door glass, back door glass, kitchen window, kitchen faucet, stove top, microwave, oven door and glass, her bathroom tub and its fixtures, and her bathroom sink and its fixtures. She rinsed the cloth only once. She finished up with her bathroom mirror. She was totally sweating when she came back with the cloths. Heh. (She had to be like a whirling dervish over there!) She was stunned that they worked, and with NO streaking at all. Oh--I did the butter experiment for her on my oven door glass, and it worked just as it did at my friend's house. I didn't rinse the cloth, and wiped off my counters, and none of the butter came off on the counters. I have to say I am very impressed. Of course, you know that after I did all those windows, it rained! :^p That's OK, since it only takes seconds to do a window, it isn't that big of a deal anymore. These cloths ROCK! Definitely worth the steep price to me! Now I am trying to decide if I want to try the body cloths. Yeehaw!

I think for starters don't get a recliner for a rental. A recliner by its nature is a mechanical contraption, and there are liability issues if a kid got pinched by one or injured a finger. I might suggest a sofa, chair and ottoman.

The load capacity of a single 2x4 is about 400 - 500 pounds. Metal should be about the same . Your TV is only 85. Distributed to two sides it's 50 pounds each. I believe you are over engineering the problem. Couple tapicon bolts and decent lags is all you need.

If you go through discounters you can get decent quality furniture in that range, if you are going to a local store (unless its in NC) you will most likely not get great quality. As I posted below I am having trouble with staining on a new microfiber sofa that I bought locally. I paid about 2k for a large sectional the pieces are 9ft by 7 feet and a chair and a half and large ottoman, not motion. It does not match the sample that was at at the store and the cushions are of inferior quality from the store sample

It still meets my needs but I regret not going with a better manufacturer and buying from a discounter such as LexFurniture.com or RobbinFurniture.Com or Rose in NC

At one point I was looking better brands and a Rowe sofa (ther eis a whole question as to whether Rowe or even flexsteel is even good, do a search) that twas being sold locally for 1400, was about 750 from the discounters plus a delivery fee that was close to the tax I would have paid locally
