Max Furniture in Dallas, Texas-stay away!
Comments (36)James Martin is the line carried by Max Furniture and other sellers including Premiere Vanities in California. I think the Max Furniture must be where it all comes from. Not sure. I ordered a pretty 48" antique white "distressed" vanity (model Model # 0M-173) last Fall from Premiere. Sales staff was helpful and good. I was able to both talk on the phone and email. Changed my mind about color choice /ship date a few times and they were easy to work with--amending my days old order. I wasnt ready to install it immediately upon arrival so it has been stored. Upon receipt, I opened packaging to check for damage during shipment. Both the vanity and the topical brown countertop arrived in good shape. The cardboard box reads "James Martin" and "made in China". Its February now, and I have taken it out of storage and into the light and this is what I see -- a very bad "distressing" job. The paint is not really distressed, which is fine with me. As far as I can tell, the "distressing" consists of 3" long shallow grooves regularly spaced on the door stiles and cabinet panels. They really look dumb and I want to fill them. The paint and corners are not worn, which I prefer, but there are two different shades of white. The two side legs and bottom are a whiter white than the doors and panels --which are a greener white. There is also a fingerprint in the finish on the right side near the top back--in an inconspicuous spot, but its there. The finish in the corners and crevices of the panels is slightly grainy in areas from painted dust. The symmetrical grooves bother me the most followed by the mismatched paint job. When I get around to it I will be fill the grooves with spackle, give it all a light sanding and repaint it. I didnt shop around alot before this purchase so I dont know how it compares in price and quality to other brands. It is apparently solid oak and plywood (a grainy plywood back under the paint) I didnt want Home Depot MDF. I suspect for a higher quality I would have paid a higher price. Overall it is pretty but not top quality. The countertop is nice, and sink basin is stock quality with a plastic chrome ring around the over flow--looks better when this trim piece is removed....See MoreBuyer Beware! Comments (4)Sabrina sorry you didn't have a good experience but personally I think Vanguard makes a very nice product, one of the best. Do your cushions have a foam core. All down cushions will pack down and they do become uncomfortable. A better choice is a mix of down, feathers and fiber in a mix of 50% down and feathers with about 80 to 90% feathers and the balance in down (10 to 20% of 50%) and 50% fiber. The best choice is a spring down mix suggested by Elite Interiors but with a 3/4" fiber wrap around the springs, followed by a few inches of high quality foam and then a down, feather and fiber wrap followed by a down proof ticking. In my opinion you made a good choice and I would say you did get a good value but that the cushions chosen were not the best option. Often times consumers think that is what they want. Your salesperson should have suggested some other options. However you can order new cushion cores. You might contact Vanguard customer service and see if they will sell you some at wholesale explaining your situation or go online and google a cushion replacement company of which their are several. If you go the down, feather and fiber route I think they are referred to as an envelope cushion. You might get these for about $100 each plus frt. You could also contact an upholsterer but expect to pay 2 to 3 times as much. A far as the time delay I might expect that there was a fabric delay from the Mill which can happen and is somewhat out of Vanguards control especially as they carry hundreds of fabrics and couldn't expect to have all of these in stock. I recently visited the High Point International Furniture show and carefully examined every high end fully upholstered furniture company. The two best in my opinion, Vanguard and Taylor King. I was taken on a tour of Vanguard by the owner of the company and found the presentation very impressive and well tailored....See MoreBuyer Beware at BASSETT FURNITURE
Comments (74)I can't speak about Bassett in particular but I believe many in the furniture industry are unethical. My mother purchased a "leather" recliner from Hudson's Furniture store in Brandon, Fl. I was with her when she picked it out. The sales woman had her choose the color from a full size leather pelt that she said would be representation of the color and the chair would be covered in 100% top grain leather - not bonded leather. Within the first 4 months, the motor on the recliner had to be replaced. And now, two years on, and it's obvious the chair is bonded leather. It's peeling and she's the only one who sits in it - no pets. She paid over $2000....See MoreJonathan Charles Furniture-Defective
Comments (1)If you paid by credit card, call your credit card company and open up a dispute. I ordered a chest and the door came off after a week. The company wanted me to pack it up and ship back at my expense which was impossible to do. I filed a claim with a cogent letter of explanation including photos and I won the dispute and the credit card charge was reversed. While the credit card company is researching your claim the amount isn't charged so you aren't out of pocket at all and aren't accruing interest....See Moregsgs
